The original show was made so that it could be enjoyed by adults and children. This show is not terribly different. Kids will appreciate the slapstick and the adults will appreciate the jokes that the kids won't get. Seems much like the old Muppet Show.
I just think the "old" show wouldn't work well as a prime-time series. I do hope they can still squeeze in the occasional skits, but I kind of like the "behind the scenes" format, if not the "talk to the camera" conceit that seems about 8 years past being clever.
I think one of the keys to the show is getting celebrities to knock themselves down a peg. That was one of the great things of the original show - having celebrities performing with puppets. For instance - the stuff with Josh Groban tonight looks great.
Not for nothing if they do remove the muppets as well they might as well close the park and do all the construction that needs to be done and reopen it cause as of now there is very little to do there is mean I can go through the whole park in a few if not less hours lol, I was a bit sad about losing the animation area I have a son that loves drawing and we loved taking him there, hoping all this change doesn't slap disney world right on the face
OK - last's nights Episode was way better than the first episode. I wish they'd ditch the "talking to camera" stuff as it's completely unnecessary and not that funny. But man I laughed a bunch. Lots of guest stars made it feel more like the muppets of old. (Remember the old show was really a "behind the scenes" show as much as it was a variety show.) The scene with Lawrence Fishburne completely cracked me up. Josh Groban was great. "Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone were more like me?" He totally played it great. "Horrible, Evil, Incredibly Talented, Velvet-Throated Piano God" should definitely be his next album title!
What I love about the concept of the Muppets as a TV series is that there are SOOO many characters that a movie just doesn't give time to. That Bobo the bear got a big B-plot in the episode was great. (I didn't think the subplot itself was great - but the fact that they can do that is.)
I don't understand their target audience. I would never sit down with my husband and watch it. I sat with my daughter because I thought it was a family show and felt the sexual references were a little too much for young kids. I wont make it a point to rewatch it.
I love the muppet show at dhs...we all think it's great here!
We were so looking forward to it but count us as another household that didn't care for the show.
As soon as it ended I deleted the series recording from our DVR.
Muppets took a huge tumble in it's second week (which is too bad because the episode was much better). Lost almost 1/3 of it's audience from the first week. BUT - it still beat just about everything else on the night except the Voice. (Man - no-one watches TV any more.)
This is certainly not an example of Disney failing. The show is awesome! Even if you don't agree, that is a personal preference thing in the type of TV show that you like and not an example of something "falling flat".
