Very true. Sorry doesn't fix a broken leg. I guess I was just surprised at how this woman hung on to her anger in the face of three nice young ladies apologizing. I didn't expect her to brush it off like it was nothing--clearly she was upset. But it would have been more meaningful, I think,if she had just said, "I know you didn't mean to run into me, but please try to be more careful. This isn't a good place to run and someone could get hurt." As it was, it left the girls feeling a little like they were being punished for apologizing after the fact.

Yes, and adults can act at least as grown up as we're expecting the kids to behave.

If I think I'm getting a sarcastic, "I'm sorry" from a child, that's one thing, but it sure sounds like these girls were genuine. And I know the difference in my own children very well. The sarcastic responses from my own children (or someone elses, for that matter) irritate me, but a genuine "I'm sorry" turns me into putty. And it really is easy to tell the difference.

Regardless of how the lady reacted, that was good parenting on your part, and good response from your dd & her friends. Good job.

(btw, it doesn't stop at 13. One of my kids inadvertently crowded a person sitting in the theater, and when I saw that person's reaction, I made mine go apologize, even though it wasn't intentional. It just helps them be more aware of their surroundings.)
