now im seriously thinking of getting an ap pass because if i got again at some point next year (besides my already planned trip it would do better than break even with the discounts). But i have a package booked and with the package i have the 5 day MYW park hopper ticket ($258 i think) now when i get there i can go to the park and upgrade that ticket to an ap having the 258 credit applied? does it matter that the ticket is on my room card?

We've had the AP's for a couple of years now, and we love having them. The discounts have been great. They've given us the abillity to go a couple of times a year. And I also find I have a sense of "freedom", with regular hoppers I always felt stressed about having to use everyday of the pass, however with the AP's I feel I can take some time and relax- if I don't go to a park one day it's no big deal.

my wife and i live in NJ and got the DVC discount on the AP...we got about 28 park days out of our 1st AP, so it broke down to about $10.71/day to get into the parks for the year. clearly...it was worth it for us.

If I get the AP, I cant get it until I get down there right? It wont be available anywhere else right? Then if an AP rate comes out for March ( when I am going) then how do I book that rate without having an AP yet?

not sure how it works for non-dvc'ers but when i bought mine, they sent me a green exchange certificate (hard plastic card) that i gave to the cm at the ticket counter and he punched me out a brand spankin' new ap with my name on it. now....why cant they make the AP's credit card tickets instead of the crappy paper ones?

We're DVC Ap holders too, and we bought our tickets this year the day before the prices went up- how lucky was that?!?!? Since we've been buying the DVC AP we've just bought it directly at the park gates. We've also been buying APs since 2002 (before we were DVC members) and we got 4 trips out of that first year, and we too got it down to about $10 a day!! If w you plan on going more than once in a calendar year, it is so worth it with the current prices, not to mention the discounts you get on certain stores, restaurants, and hotel rooms because we can't spend all out trips at the DVC resorts

OK but how do you get an AP rate when you dont have an AP yet? See my problem. I dont have one yet and you can only buy one once you get there so how can I get the rate if I dont have the AP yet?

The AP rates are available on many websites, Check http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html ,or http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-ap.htm . They both update as new rates are available. Also when you call to book your room you can tell them that you want to see what is available for AP rates at the time your interested in(sometimes this works although sometimes I've had really bad CM's that won't look it up.). If you order your passes ahead of time or get them from the Disney store the vouchers you get can be used to go to the Disney AP website.WD AP website .

I asked this question. I was told that the plastic card magnetic strips don't hold up too well(think older credit cards with the strip fading off.), so they use the paper ones because they actually can stand up to more uses without having to be replaced.

We ususally buy only one AP for my husband (for the dining club and discounts) and a myw ticket for me - if we are staying for less than 10 days. We stay offsite normally so we don't qualify for the dining plan, but we've found the dining club to be a good deal.

We certainly have found that our AP's have paid for themselves for the last 2 years. We went for 13 days in 2005 and for another 13 days in 2006. We got the free dining plan in 2005 and bought the DDE for our 2006 and again it paid for itself too. This was the best two years ever for sure for our trips. We didn't get AP rates for rooms this year, but did for 2005. This wasn't our first time for AP's but certainly our best two trips so far. If we can afford to go twice in 2 years, we will definately do it again. We find it the way to go for sure. As long as you know how to work the AP to your advantage. We did upgrade to PAP's as my DS and DH love the water parks and DQ. HTH

The crappy paper ones are actually a VERY tough mylar composite card that is very durable. Plastic cards can break, as they do not bend very well.

AP's, can, over a year, actually cost you money, LOL, because you think it is so cheap to go back, and/or the AP is burning a hole in your pocket.

The DDE, now available to AP holders, is also a great benefit.

You can buy an AP online through Disney's webpage. There are no discounts available anywhere on them. They will send you a voucher, but you don't even need that to get a room booked at the AP rate. Just tell them. They will check that you have an AP upon check-in. So you at least need the voucher by check-in. I'm pretty certain that you an exchange the voucher at the two Disney stores at the airport. They will be dated the day you do it though (so your year begins then) so if you are going to another Orlando property first, and not going to WDW right away, it might be better to wait until you actually are on Disney property. You cannot exchange the vouchers , or buy AP's at the hotels.

Once you have the voucher though you can go to the AP part of the Disney webpage. You can also sign up for DDE (It costs, I think $60, but gives you 20% off at many disney sitdown restaurants. Also, an AP will give you free parking at WDW. Even without DDE, the AP gives some discounts off food (Often 10% at lunch) and some discounts off water parks, Disneyquest, the WOD store, and some others I never really used.

Also, I think it takes about six weeks to get the actual DDE card. I signed up last year when they had just opened it up to AP users, so maybe it won't take as long toorder it now. They will email you prrof of purchase ahead of time though, so if the real card down't arrive in time you can use the letter, but the card is obiously nicer.

The biggest perk of an AP though is the room discounts. But disney seems to be slowly reduceing the discount,and also delaying the release of the discount codes.
