We currently have a package booked (hotel, tickets & dining) We booked with a 40% off room only code... We are planing NOW planning on updating our GAD vouchers to APs because we are going next year and it will save us money....

so my question is if i cancel my tickets can i keep my PAID dining?

The short answer is no. There are of course ways to do it, but not directly with your current reservation.

If you were staying at a DVC resort then you could try renting points for your reservation instead of booking through CRO. In this situation you would ask the DVC owner to add the dining plan to your DVC reservation. You would pay the owner for the reservation and you would pay Disney for the dining upon arrival. I see that you're staying at the Polynesian but if you're willing to switch to BLT (closest DVC resort to Poly and also on the monorail) or another DVC resort then this could work for you.

Your other option is to book an AP package reservation. You can not use your PIN for this; you'll need to use whatever AP discount is currently available. You can book an AP package even if you don't have the AP yet. I've read different things about the requirement for having the AP at check-in. Some people say that as long as you show the AP at some point on the same day after you've checked in that you're fine and others say that you need to go to a Guest Relations window first to get your GAD and upgrade it to the AP before you check into your resort so you can show the AP at check-in. Personally, I'd plan to get the AP before checking in just because I'd be too anxious that there might be problems at check-in if I don't already have it. For your dates written in your signature, the AP rate is 42% off so even better than your PIN. I just checked the passholder site and I am not seeing any availability for Polynesian meaning I don't know if this is actually a viable option for you. There's no availability online but you could always try calling in to see if a CM can find availability that's not showing online.

thank you!! i get it now!

I just checked your dates on the AP section of WDW site and no hotels are coming up for the date range. You can always call and see if they'll apply the AP discount to your current res. In the past we have never had a problem doing so, but this year no good luck. We had 2 WL woods view with a 40% off PIN and tried for AP discount from the day they were offered and never avail!! (Feb 5-12, 2010=go figure a slow time)

why not just keep your package and upgrade the package tickets to AP? The full value you paid for them will count towards your AP...then you don't lose your dining plan, and you still have the 40% discount you booked with. Crunch the numbers, probably save you money still. This is exactly what we did last January.

You can use your GAD vouchers to get fastpasses instead

because id rather save the extra money instead of fast passes.

It just seems worth it to me since we are going again next year. We called and canceled our dining plan and tickets and we are all set yipee!

Yes, that's the best thing to do!! The DDP to me really isn't worth buying but of course that's my view. You really should think about TIW if you will be eating in TS places. We have it and it's worth it to us! Have fun in whatever you do!!

thanks for all your help!
I thought about it and i think paying out of pocket makes more sense to me. i wanted to try dining plan just for budget reasons but i think it might be a lot of food for us too
