Forgive me - I'm sure someone has figured this out extensively BUT: Considering the DVC discount on AP's (including the even cheaper renewal price), would it ever be benificial for me to get a MYW ticket again?

I figure on the low end we'd spend about 10 days a year in the parks (2 trips). 10 day no exp hopper is $443. Even if we go to the parks less one year I think we'd still be ahead overall. Someone help me on this one-I hate math.

yes and what we did this year (our first with the APs) is went in late June06 a few smaller trips and then early June07 this year. So we ended up with 4 trips planned so far or taken already and about 25 days.

We will then skip a year and do US/IOA and a beach trip the following year and start again in )* with the AP again.

I think the break even without the NO-expiry is 12 and your right about at it with the 10 day with it.

Remember you should be able to get the MYW and upgrade during the first trip if you want.

Another advantage with having an AP is to get the DDE Card.

The DDE Card costs $60 per year, but is is worth it. You save 20%
on food and drinks for a party of up to 10 people.

do we just call member services to order the ap? or cro?

Call MS they will connect you to DDE. When we did this it was a few days before we were going to WDW. We were able to pick up our card at
Guest Services at the Epcot entrance.

Thanks for posting....I've been trying to figure out the same thing! So, just to clarify for my haven't-had-coffee-yet-this-morning brain: The break-even point for AP (w/ DVC discount) is around 10 days? We normally would purchase 10-day hoppers, no expiry.

Thanks!

Just to add a bit more info:
A 10 day no expiry hopper from Undercover Tourist through a link in Mousesavers newsletter is $395.95 for adult, including tax and shipping.
I always get an AP for myself but we are going to get DH a hopper until his medical stuff is straightened out. He only was able to use his AP a few days the 2 past years.

A DVC-Discounted AP for an adult is $355.71 (including tax) - so unless your two trips do not occur in the same 12 month period, it will always be less expensive to buy the AP. And that's not even considering the perks/benefits that come with an AP - like the ability to buy the Disney Dining Experience.

If you go into a park 7 days or less in a 12 month period, it may be better to get a no-expiration MYW ticket - those are about $360 if you buy in advance.

Also, AP's afford you the opportunity to get discounts on room-rate only promos that are offered at certain times of the year in case you need them to save on points before or after a DVC trip or (gasp!) if you run out of points.

There's an equation you forget when you choose AP over MYP: SOmehow you WILL end up going on more vacations than you plan to!

"Honey, the kids have two days off from school!"

"Call Disney, book a room, we have the AP's!"

ka blam, $400 (room if we can't use DVC) and $400 (food) and $150 (dog boarding) poof, and it's all the fault of the AP's.

And this year, when they sent the renewal form in the mail, we got an extra discount for renewing early, so renewals were $297, before the rate increase. I thought AP's were a steal this year!!:goodvibes

Is it better to go for a Premium AP or get a separate admission to PI and DisneyQuest? I've no interest in the water parks, but the other two locales are interesting.

And am I right that I can go to Guest Relations at DTD, show my DVC Member card, and get my discounted AP? This was our plan this year rather than renewing our existing APs (they expire in march and we're switching to Apr/May and Oct/Dec stays.)

Is there a discount on the children's AP also? Does anyone know the cost?

I purchased 10 day MYW tickets, with park hoppers and no expiration when the first did the change over. the date on the tickets is 1/6/05, we are about to take our 4th trip maybe 5th since then, all about 5 nights each, on those tickets, at first I was going to get AP's, but figured to go this route, and it has worked. If, we were going to do a NY's trip this year, I had thought about AP's and saving the balance on the 10 days, I think there are 2 days left, but we decided not to.

I also have old PHP, with pluses left and these MYW's have pluses, so we do spend time at the water parks.

thats the beauty of DVC, you really don't have to spend that much time in the parks if you don't want to. Sure the AP's are great becuse you can come and go as you please and don't worry, we can't go to epcot for a few hours because we would blow a day, but if you plan well, they work. Alot of times we will pick a park day, and hit two the same day, then water park or resort the next.

Yes, the discount goes for childrens APs also.

We always buy APs (did so even before the DVC discount), and schedule trips to make the most of the time involved. For example: we would start using an AP second week of Jan. and go again mid year and again the first week of Jan, thus satisfying our desire to travel every year at that time. We could then renew, but since your renewal date has the clock ticking already, we usually wait until we schedule our next trip, and activate new APs at that time. That means we are purchasing the discounted APs aproximately everyother year, but traveling numerous times each year on them. We usually get from 20-30 days on an AP.

Are the renewal AP's cheaper than the original priced AP's? I guess my question is, is there an advantage to renewing before they expire? And can I wait a few months before activating the renewed AP?
Thanks for your help!!

New Adult AP is $334. Renewal is $304. So a renewal is less expensive.
You save $100 off regular price for a new one and $90 off regular price for a renewal.

I guess my question is, is there an advantage to renewing before they expire? And can I wait a few months before activating the renewed AP?

You cannot renew after they expire. Renewals are valid for 365 days from original Pass Anniversary Date.

Do you buy a MYW ticket on the off year?
