AP vs. MYW package question

Not sure if should post this here or the Budget Board...but here goes

For a family of 5 (4 adults and 1 child for ticket and meal purposes) how do you decide if it is best to do the MYW with dining packages or buy APs. We went last year at halloween and are going this year the week after thanksgiving. We will probably go again next year for halloween again and have considered alternating christmas and halloween after that. We do love the dining plan and for a family of 5 that can be quite a savings. But how does that compare to ap savings codes?

Which way would be the best way to go?

I don't think there is a set answer--much depends upon where you plan to stay. If you are staying on site and a moderate oe deluxe, the Ap room saving can be greater or equal to the dining package. With MYW, you pay full price for the room. If staying off site or at a value, the savings are less significant, but significant nonetheless.

With an AP and an additional $60, you can also get the DDE card which is good for 20% discount on sitdown meals, some counter service and alcohol.

Stayed at the Contemporary last year and we are trying the Grand Floridian this year. We will probably try the Poly next year. So far we have stayed concierge for preplanning and the lounge really is nice with 3 children. It gives the a place to eat breakfast while other are getting ready and the snacks are handy when we come back to the resort. We live about 10 hours away but so far have only done one trip.
