So, I didn't realize how much of a total AP NOOB I am until I saw Shannon's post about waiting to upgrade to AP from a PH after using MM. I was really close to buying one, but I forgot that there are no MM perks, so I will go ahead with getting the PH first for my June trip.

Any other life-saving tips anyone else has for me before I crash and burn in my own noobness? :rotfl:

And also... with the Deluxe, what dining discounts are there?

I'm not sure there are any aspects as important as "if you don't have MM through the hotel, get a hopper and upgrade after the MM". I'm glad you caught that one, though!

Dining is 10% off most dining. You should be able to check out the AP pages for the list of restaurants that participate...places that don't are places like Royal Street Veranda and the ice cream place near Baker's Field bakery (brrr bank?). Other places require a $10+ purchase. I just ask everywhere, though, no matter what. There are some people who've gotten RSV to acquiesce to their AP discount demands, for instance...not me, but others. So ask everywhere!

Also, there are discounts around DTD with an AP.

To add to Molly's comments -

Deluxe APs do NOT get any in-park merchandise discounts. Only Premium. We had to drop down to Deluxe this year, due to the economy, and that has stunk.

My AP tip:

If you go to DLR every year, even if it is only once a year, it might be worth it to buy APs. For example, if you go in July the first year, you can go in June the next year on the same AP. That's we are doing and we have gotten two years of vacations out of the cost of one year's APs. :thumbsup2
After the second year, you can let it expire until you go the next year.

My AP tip:

There are special pins that you can only get with an AP.

Buy the AP only pins of the month.
Get the AP-only pin-with-food-purchase where offered.

Just wanted to second bumbershoot's advice about asking for a discount with an ap, even when you don't think it applies. I got discounts a few times at places that don't usually give one with a deluxe, only a premium. Doesn't hurt to ask.
