AP testing week-how are your kids doing?

DD is taking APBiology test Fri and APUSH Monday. She doesn't seem nervous. She has been studying like crazy- even by the pool on spring break- taking practice tests. She went to school Saturday for review day.

The AP tests here are all covered but education lottery money. The kids/parents don't have to pay anything OOP.

Good luck to her! :goodvibes

My oldest took AP Environmental today and takes APUSH on Friday. Our tests were also $86 each. She said she felt pretty confident on most of the test today so I hope she scored well.

I think those are reversed-APUSH is Friday and AP Bio is Monday (not that you have to worry too much about that though). Our kids are taking the same tests.

Our tests are "officially" $83 but the state reimburses each school for each test taken so the kids only have to bring in a check for $55.

DD had psych today, first day back from Spring Break (horrid way to spend a break.) I haven't seen her yet - she is working now.

DD's teacher has impressive statistics on kids getting 4's and 5's. So - I am optimistic that my $86 was money well spent. This teacher has taught the class since the first year it was offered.

APStats is next week (Wednesday I think), DD isn't nearly as confident on that one.

Wow - it sounds like some of you have a broad selection of AP classes to take. Our high school had 6 AP classes available this year, and next year, they are adding AP Biology to the list, so 7 classes available.

Can someone explain to me what AP classes get you? I am new to the country and don't know how the AP classes differ from something like IB certificates or IB diploma.

I have a rising freshman and don't know which way to go, the AP route or the IB Diploma.

Any insight?

At the end of the year, you can take the AP exam for whatever AP classes you took this year. It is scored from 1 to 5, and if you get a 3, 4, or 5, most (not all) colleges will give you some form of credit so you can take fewer classes when you actually get to college.

I don;t know about the kids but I am an AP teacher and I am nervous!!!!;);)

:lmao:

My son will be taking his AP English this week...hmmmm or is it next week...I think he said this Wed...will have to ask him again.

He is a JR and took some last year also....right know he is busy also taking his ACT test, SAT test, and 3 subject tests....not to mention finals are right around the corner. Oh yes and he is in driving school, so that test also.

It was never this expensive when I went to school :upsidedow

We've got Art History and Spanish tomorrow. APUSH and English coming up, too. Not sure what else is going on....She's very stressed.

DD is taking her first AP test this year-AP Euro. I'm not even optimistic she'll get a 3-I don't think she has studied hard enough.
She'll just take APUSH next year as well, because she didn't get into AP Psych (filled with seniors) and you can't take APES until you have had Bio, Chem and Physics

In our district there have been so many cutbacks that the majority of AP and IB classes are now combined, so content is the same.

The IB kids complete CAS projects (creativity, action, service) and extended essays that the AP kids don't. And of course they're required to take a specific schedule of IB classes if they're in the diploma program.

The AP program offers more flexibility to customize a schedule that meets individual needs, at least theoretically. With all the cutbacks and limited class offerings that's not as big of an advantage as it used to be... at least around here.

It's been several years since we looked into the IB program, so things may have changed, but at the time we didn't feel it was well accepted / respected enough in the US to be worth the extra effort and cost. Just our conclusion though. I know some people love it.

I teach AP Calc and I am very nervous:scared1::scared1:

I know I have done everything to get them ready. I am more of a cheerleader this week answering last minute questions.

I am so nervous the day of the test I am taking the day off to keep my mind off of the test.

Good luck to all your students. They sometimes surprise you

My dd - sophmore - takes her first next week - AP global. They did a practice run last week and she scored a 4 which is great, but here's the problem...she scored that without studying - it was a "pop quiz". Now she feels that this test will be a breeze and really is not studying alot for it. I emailed the teacher, but she hasn't answered yet. They are reviewing for it in class everyday, but I don't think this is enough. Oh, and we don't have to pay for the tests..they are covered by our district.

Technically you don't even have to take the AP class to take the AP test, just an FYI. If your school doesn't offer a lot of AP classes but you still take say, European History and want to try the test, you can sign up to take the test (probably at another school).

When the twins brought home the sheet to sing up for the tests they were "complaining" that each test costs $55 (state subsidizes some of the test cost for each school). I just laughed. Let's see $55 now or several thousand later :lmao:. With so many colleges going away from giving actual "credit" on a transcript for AP tests now I am not counting on actually saving "money" over the long run but it will look good on applications, etc. if they score well.

tests here are $86 but it still saved thousands for us...so worth the money. When all was said and done DS has 36 college credits (the max the school accepted was 32) so he has shaved off a year of college by doing well on them.

My dd takes that one also. She is very nervous! Our district alsopays for the tests.

Good luck to both of our dd's:thumbsup2

DS took the AP Psych test yesterday and he said it wasn't "that bad" and he thinks he did well on it. :wizard:

Last year he took the AP Gov test and received a 4 on it . . .so he feels pretty confident that he did well on his AP Psych. :thumbsup2

I have one of those....she just asked me last night where the prep book was that i bought her. :scared1: That's ok I already warned her that if she didn't do well she was paying me back the $86. :lmao:
