I am thinking about buying an AP, I can not remember what the discount was on the rooms though. Is it really significant? Also, I do not remember if it was offered all the time or not

Hi BCS Mom:

AP rates vary by level of hotel (e.g. deluxe hotels usually have larger discounts than moderates, etc.). They are NOT GUARANTEED, though. Sometimes they're offered - sometimes they're not.

There are also some new restrictions on them. For instance, you have to book your room online at least 60 days in advance. You also won't know whether or not you'll get an AP rate until you've bought the AP and logged on; so, if you're only buying the AP for the hotel discount, it's a gamble.

There are other advantages to having an AP, though. Annual Passholders can get in on Disney's Dining Experience for around $50. This gives you a 20% discount on meals at a number of restaurants. My family of three are not huge eaters; but, over the course of a couple of trips, we think it paid for itself several times over.

We also like the freedom of having an annual pass. If you're likely to travel to Disney more than ten days in a year, it's probably worth it.

Hope this was helpful.

Cheers,

Pirate.

Pirate,

Thanks so much for the info. I think I will go ahead and purchase the AP, and hope for some room discounts as well. Do you know if discounts are available in January?

AP discounts can only be booked up to 60 days in advance, so you couldn't book one for anything before 1/20/2006. I think there may still be some availability up to April 14. Can't know without checking the website.

If you call the Central Reservations Office between 2-5 Eastern, they can tell you if there's still availability for your dates. I was able to get a quote before I bought my AP. You may have to call back a couple of times until you get a CM who will answer your questions.

It has been running 18 off of values, 40 off of moderates and 70 or 75 off deluxes.

If you have AAA and are going for less than 10 days throughout the course of the year, AAA might be a better alternative for you.

Thanks everyone. I will probably go between 10 & 15 days this year, so I think I will try the AP.

Not to hijack this thread, but I am also interested in buying the AP...if only for the dining card.
Cobbler, are the room discount averages you mentioned for the time the OP was talking about visiting (January), or these averages throughout the year?

We are staying June/July for 8 or 9 nights at ASMo...getting 3 rooms though. $18 off each room for 9 nights would more than cover the cost of the AP...the dining card would be gravy, KWIM??

I am aware that I can't book with the AP for my dates yet, but can anyone offer any ideas as to what the discounts might be? Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Jennifer,

I know before the BRP, I had a AP and then it was up to disney when they would allow AP discounts. We usually go during value season, and used to get the discounts. It used to just be available at select resorts, I really do not know how it works with the BRP though.
