I am considering getting an AP so we can get a room discount, my girls will be on a school trip so they will already have tickets. I already booked my room so if I buy the AP do I just call and tell them I am an AP holder? If so do I then call again after the codes are announced to get the room discount? :confused3 How often does Disney offer AP room discount plus dining packages (discount on the room, regular price on dining)? A 40% room discount would really help my budget. So can anyone help? Any info would be great. Thanks so much, Cheryl :goodvibes

Most free dining packages don't work for AP members as you can only get free dining or discount on room-only. 40% off of a room would more than make up for having to pay for your dining yourself. We currently have AKL for 7 days for $938.00 ($139.00 per night) total and ASMo for 7 days for $338.00 ($49.50 per night) with AP discounts. If you search my name free dining would definetly not work if you have an AP. I have price breakdowns and totals for free dining vs. 40% off. The 40% off code wins every time, at least for my family of 3 it does.

Just because you have an AP doesn't automatically mean you will get a discount. Remember, there are only a limited amount of rooms that have the discount. The only way to find a room with a 40% discount late in the booking season is if someone cancels their reservation. Those rooms will then go back into inventory and will either be booked by others with an AP or by general public at full price. The families lured in by FD will jump on whatever is leftover so getting a room will require you to call in everyday to see what they have available. The easiest way to check is look at the AP sight and see if something comes up. If it does, book it online. Once you book it, and if you already have a reservation, simply cancel the existing reservation and apply the money to the new ressie. You will have to wait for refund before doing this. You can also call and then tell them you want to add the AP rate discount to the room. If the room is available in the inventory, then the rate will simply be adjusted and you will not need to cancel anything. HTH

I wasn't looking for free dining, just room discount and regular price dining--obviously Disney wouldn't double discount ;)

I would hold off on the AP purchase. If discounts do come out, then see if your room can get the discount, then buy the AP when you get there. You can buy them even at the Disney store at the airport - I've done that before!

You're going at spring break, so prices tend to be higher. The economy is making the travel industry suffer, so maybe a discount will come out.

I think you are able to purchase the dining plan when you are staying on an AP discount.
