Hello~
My boyfriend and I will received vouchers for annual pass and we were debatting if the room discount would be better then the free dinning plan in a moderate ressort. On most post people are saying the room discount is better.

I have looked around but could not found any definite information about room discount for moderate and I have done the math like this(rounded) I have based my calculation on this year price since our trip will be in 2014.

Per room(French Quarter)
169 per night(in september)
Dinning plan cost: 53$ per person(so 106$ per day)

If I get 30% off per night it comes down 50$.

The only discount that would made the AP pass worth more then free dinning would be if the room would be 60% off(very unlikely I think).

I know about the 2 ticket per person, we will give those away to some friend.

So am I missing something in my calculation or are the AP discount only better then free dinning in deluxe hotel?

Thank you for reading~

Sounds like in your case FD would be better.

But in general - It's different for other parties though, you have to look at the whole picture - how many people, how many kids/adults, which resort. Normally, as you go up in family size and/or down in resort price, the free dining offer often works better.

Also, if you want to truly know what is the better deal - it can be helpful to determine if it would be cheaper for you to pay out of pocket for meals (so you have to figure out what you might eat, how much that would cost per day) and take a room discount instead of free dining. In other words, for a true comparison - don't just compare paying for the dining vs. not paying for the dining plan.

And no, there won't be a 60% discount off the room - ever!

I had a similar dilemma recently. For us, we wouldn't have spent anywhere close to the cost of the dining plan on food if we were buying it ourselves, so the "value" wasn't really the full cost. Couple this with Tables in Wonderland and any reasonable % off offer was a better deal.

Are you saying that you already received vouchers or that you plan to purchase them? If you don't have them yet, don't buy them ahead of time. If you take advantage of a free dining offer then you'll have to purchase minimum 2 day MYW tickets. If you don't already have the APs or AP vouchers then you can upgrade the MYW tickets that you purchased with the free dining promotion.

If you already have the vouchers then the calculation really does need to include the cost of the 2 day tickets since you will have to pay that cost. If the friends to whom you'll give them will in fact pay you for them then you really don't need to consider this cost but if you'll be putting out the money and won't recoup it then you should include it in the price comparisson.

I do agree with Vicki that comparing what you'd actually spend on dining if paying OOP added to the AP discount to the free dining cost (compare with TiW and without) will give you the most accurate picture.

We have APs. And it's usually just my adult daughter.
Wh have Disney reservations price out
Free dining. Then room only discount and buying the DDP. With ap it's usually 35%. So if you are wanting to add DDP to room only discount you can, and it could be cheaper because of having to add on the 2 day park ticket to each res. for free dining..

We have done the free dining last year and are going to use our park tickets in aug toward our new AP..so unless you never plan on returning to WDW, you don't have to just give away your tickets. They will be good for another trip either to put towards ap or to upgrade for longer tickets.
