Hello!

I just received an email notifying me that me AP renewal will be up in 9 days, and I can get 15% off if I renew before then.

My question is, if I renew it now, will the expiration date for the next pass be based on today...or the first time I actually use it in March?

Thanks!

I may be wrong so someone correct me if I am, but your expiration date for your AP doesn't change. It should be the original date of when you first used it in the parks. So if you renew now there will be no interruption in your AP status. You do receive a discount for renewing as opposed to purchasing a new one. If you allow it to expire you will have pay full price if you decide to purchase one again.

You have up to 30 days following your expiration date to renew and still get the same discount.

Has it been about 20 days since your old/current AP expired?

An AP "renewal" means that you will keep the exact same expiration date (just one year later.)
Otherwise, it would not be a "renewal."

didn't some people mention they were getting the 13 month special when they renewed? I'm not sure if renewing on site is a requirement for that to happen.

but yes, on a renewal, your renewal date wouldn't change no matter when you paid to renew. Your going to need to decide if it's a better deal for you to renew or just get an AP again when you need it.

Last year, I renewed mine 15 days after the expiration date so that it would change the bill due date (I'm a FL resident) but it did not change the original renew date for this year. They just give you the 30 days after expiration to keep the 15% off renewal rate.

What I can't remember is do they send the AP card in the mail or do you have to visit a Guest Service location to get it?

They didn't change them this year on my renewal, I just kept using the same one. If you need a replacement just stop by any ticket window or guest relations and ask them for a new card (it's free), don't forget your id.

We've had APs for multiple years and our renewal date always stays the same.

I did just renew my AP a couple of weeks ago and got the 13 for 12 deal. It will be interesting to see what my renewal date will be next year. Will it change by a month later.....how will that work?

Yes, the CM I spoke with over the phone explained to me that the renewal date will be the same day, one month later for next year with this promotion.

I renewed mine in October and my new renewal date is November 2017.

In normal circumstances (no special AP promotion,) an AP will have an anniversary date (date that the AP expires) exactly on the same date as the AP was activated, but 12 months later.
=============

But, the discussion in this thread (starting with post #10) has moved over to "what happens if you buy a new (or renew to) an Annual Pass during the special 13-month AP promotion."

In this case, the anniversary date (date that the AP expires) will be approximately the same date as the AP was activated but 13 months later.

I say "approximately" as if you activated an AP on October 31, 2016, it could not have an anniversary date of "November 31, 2017"
(as November only has 30 days.) In that unique case, the AP should have an anniversary date of December 1, 2017.

Since the CM who issues your AP (or AP renewal) must MANUALLY put in the Anniversary/expiration date for APs,
make sure that you CHECK that date at the time you are issued the new AP. (Always do that for any AP, promotion or not.)
Adding an incorrect Anniversary/expiration date for APs is one of the most common ticket CM errors.

So if I renew online today for my pass expiring Jan 7,2017, I'll get 13 months? So till Feb7,2018? I'm planning April 2017 and Jan 2018 trips and want to make sure it will cover both before renewing. Thanks.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. That'll work.

To add to robo, I think in the case of renewals you need to activate it by jan 3rd as it's guest relations/ticket booth that adds the extra month to the expiration. Only new passes puchased in the window have 18 months to activate them.. @ravenclawtrekkie might be able to offer insight if that is accurate.

Do the math, I'm not sure renewing is going to save you money if you can't get that 13th month. It might be better to buy a new AP before jan 3, but not activate it until your april trip and then you'll get a may 2018 renewal date. You can buy an AP even if you have an AP. there's a few months there that I think is more than 15% of the cost that your never going to use it. at least with a may 2018 you might get more use out of it.

Interesting. So Disney defines a month as 31 days?
So if this promotion is valid for early next year and the expiration is Jan 31, would the new expiration be March 3 ?

i didn't realize renewals had to be activated, when my parents do it they don't get anything to activate. Now I'm all confused again.

Renewals don't need to be activated. Only new AP's have to be activated. There's no stopping point in an AP renewal so there's no need to activate it, it just rolls over to another year and you're good to go
