AP renewal and maxpass

I have a question for AP's who have renewed their passes. I have a signature pass that expires 7/14. I plan to renew. We arrive 7/11 so no issue with it expiring or anything. But my question is I want to add max pass. If I add max pass on 7/11 is the max pass good for 1 year as of 7/11 or 7/14. I would like to utilize it from 7/11. Please do share your experience with this. TIA!

You don’t buy it for a year; you buy it for the life of the pass. It’s not supposed to kick in until the renewal date if you add it for your next pass. For instance, my husband’s pass expires July 11, and we’re adding Maxpass to his next one, but that won’t kick in until that pass starts on the 12th. It’s possible that you’d get some pixie dust from the CM at the ticket booth or guest services, but I wouldn’t plan on it.

Also, be careful that they don’t activate it on the 11th with an expiration date of the 14th.

I agree with Skyegirl; I would be careful about not activating it and then having it expire with your old pass. You may have to pay the $10/day for MP in the meantime.

Ok so I posted this same question on a AP group I'm in on Facebook and was told by others who have done this that the day you upgrade and add maxpass they are both active immediately. They also did this online so, I guess I will do this before I leave for my trip. Thanks for your input anyhow.☺

Hmmm, definitely let us know how that goes. We added MP to our signature pass over Memorial Day weekend, and we could not add it online. We had to do it at the ticket pavilion, and we were strongly reminded that the MP would expire when our passes expired. :scratchin Hope it works out for you!

I will definitely let you know. I'm not worried about the expiration date as much as the start date. I want it to be active 7/11/18. If it expires 7/11/19 I'm ok with that as I can plan aroung that.

I am curious though. Will I be charged anything besides the $75 for MP when I renew? I read there is no deposit so not sure if they charge the monthly payment that date or what?

If you want it to be active on 7/11/18 when your pass expires on 7/14/18, your MP will also expire on 7/14/18. It will NOT have a year's lifespan. That's why people are saying to be very careful with the activation date and that you'll be better of paying the $10/a day for it with the current pass.. It expires with the pass.

Others are stating that when renewing and adding maxpass to the renewal that MP is good from that date of renewal until the renewed pass expires.

From the website:
"Disney MaxPass
From the first valid date of your pass until your pass expires, you will be able to make and redeem Disney FASTPASS selections right from your phone and get downloads of all of your Disney PhotoPass photos captured in your Disney account."
(emphasis mine)
I would make VERY sure that the MP is good for the year from when you get it and not the remaining three days your pass is good for.

This was what I thought as well but others in my Facebook group told me otherwise.

We upgraded my husband and added Maxpass for his renewal. It doesn’t go into effect until July 12. They had to go get a lead because they originally accidentally added it to THIS year’s and it would have expired July 11.

Why would Disney give people 40 free days of Maxpass during the renewal period? This is the same company that takes away your parking privileges when you renew if you downgrade, even if you have 40 days left on your pass.

Maybe some people got pixie dusted, but that’s definitely not how it “works,” so tread carefully.

We simply paid MaxPass day by day before our renewal kicked in since we didn't have enough park days left on that year's pass to make the annual fee worth it and then added MaxPass for the new pass year.

I know its sounds crazy but thats what several people are posting on the Disneyland annual passholders group on Facebook. I tried renewing my AP online and there is no where to add maxpass at all. Maybe they corrected the issue?? Who knows... I'll probably wait to renew in person.

I last renewed my AP in October and there was no option to add MaxPass then. I guess I'm a little surprised they haven't added that as an online feature. The only ways to add MaxPass then were to call the AP line or do it at the ticket booth. I confirmed in October/November with Disney CMs both on the phone and at the ticket booth that the MaxPass would not start early even if added with a renewal and I agree with other posters who point out that this only makes sense. Disney downgrades passes now if you renew early to a lower level, so there is no way they are going to as a matter of policy give you a benefit in excess of what you have paid for. I too heard about one or two people who did seem to have this happen for them, but such reports have been fairly rare and I have guessed they were most likely CM error, CM kindness, or mere glitches.

Well I went online and there is no option to add max pass only if you are purchasing a new AP not renewing. Maybe they we're able to before they changed the feature who knows. I'll just wait until I go to the ticket booth in person to renew and purchase max pass so there are no issues.

If i have to purchase max pass for a few days that's fine with me. I just dont want to waste $75 and I want the monthly payment option instead of paying the $75 the day I renew. I guess talking to a live CM is the best option.
