AP rates without having the AP yet?

I am looking to take my boys down to WDW in late Aug for a week. I am currently trying to rent some DVC points but if that falls thru we will stay at a value or mod on-site. I am planning on getting an AP when I get to the parks (or shortly before). Can I book a room at an AP rate prior to getting the AP or is there something that I have to give them when I book? I know that I have to show the valid AP when I check-in.

Yes...you can book the room at the AP rate without actually having the AP yet. You can buy it when you get to the parks, but most resorts will check you in at the AP rate unless you have it then. If you go buy it, you can bring it back to the front desk. OR you can order one from Disney ( or buy one at the Disney store)...You then get it validated at Disney, and the year countdown starts from the date you get it validated. I think that if you've bought the voucher for one, Disney has it in their computer and the reservations desk at your resort knows that. I pre-ordered my AP from Disney, but didn't get it validated until I got to the parks. So when I checked in, all I had was my AP voucher. The CM at the Poly never asked to see it. I think that is because the computer probably showed that I had purchased an AP voucher.

I think Disney has LOTS of information about us in their computer!
