AP rates - can it be a child or adult with the AP?

I am curious. The first time we went to Disney our dd was under 3. We have 4 days + 3 water park days left on our tickets. I would like to take advantage of the AP rates at the deluxe since it is $100 off a nigth right now and very worth it to get an AP, even if we only go once more. Since my dd already does not have any tickets, I thought how nice to get her the AP since she will probably go with me and DH at least another time this year and my MIL wanted to do a weekend with her too (without us.) So it would make more sense for her to have the AP but I have a feeling I can't book with a child's AP - is that correct? Does it have to be DH or I?

Thanks in advance

Officially, to receive the AP rate, the AP must be in the name of the person who the reservation is made under, and that must be an adult. I've heard from some that they have managed to do it with a child's AP, but I certainly wouldn't count on it.

Another thing to consider is if you are interested in the DDE card - I *believe* you have to be over 18 to get the card so if you have a child's AP you can't get it.

what is a a DDE card?

Looks like I will be getting the AP pass just in case - oh well.

DDE card is the Disney Dining Experience card which is the AP solution to the MYW dining pkg.

You get 20% off most restaurants in the "world". It costs $50 for AP holders and is valid for one year.

You can read more about it here at MouseSavers

in they asked to see an ID. If you can produce a Drivers License for a child you would be able to get a child AP rate. Think about it.....also how are you going to put your desposit down on your room in your childs name. If you use the child's AP should the credit card/check payment match the child's name.

Just a thought!!!! I don't get it when I see this questions! :confused3

lsteadman, I think that it was a personally reasonable question.

I can book a room in Disney in MY name and use my husband's credit card to pay for it. The room would be in my name, but the charge would be sent to his credit card, so it is possible to make a reservation in another name other than your own.

I agree Disney COULD use this as a reason to prevent child's AP from being used to get a resort discount. I don't think they'd have to make any announcement if they decided to use that interpretation.

Doris posted an email from Disney. Basically as long as the child's name is on the reservation the discount seems to be allowed. CM's at the front desk rarely ask to see any AP or voucher.

Generally I'd suggest getting an adult AP so you can also purchase DDE but OP had a valid reason for getting an AP for her child.

Isteadman, you know what I don't get - when people like you come into a discussion to be rude for no apparent reason.

I asked a question I was unsure - thats all. Since I have never had an AP or booked with an AP, I thought I would ask. I would hate for one of us to get it since we already have tickets then find out anyone staying in the room could have had the AP rate to get the discount. That is why I come to these boards, to get better ideas and to give some info that I may know to others asking questions. I didn't know the AP holder had to be the actual person holding the ressie, checking in and paying for it at the end. That is why I asked the question. If that is the case, then I guess my DH is the only person who can get the AP since he will be paying - problem is, I am checking in without him, he is coming a day later. Oh well.

I wasn't being rude I was just make a comment and point of view...isn't that what the purpose of this boards is for. I asked a valid question on check-in procedure for AP. What I don't get is how people on this board can take simply comment so personally. Get the stick out of your butt and relax a little!!!! GEESH!!!!

I have been asked for an ID everytime I check in and make payment on my room. Isn't that what a CM does.... verify your ID when you check-in otherwise anyone can come in and say their "John Doe."

It was just a comment don't take it so darn personal. It seems like you are pissed because it was a valid comment. That is why you think I am being rude. Because its a questions you should have asked yourself. Get over it!
