AP question

I have read the mousesavers section on AP's but still have some questions. That site says you can book a room before buying the AP. This is good because I would like to buy it after I know I can get a room discount. Can I check into the resort with my voucher only or will I need to activate it first? Are the AP purchased at the airport already activated or is this a voucher too? We only plan to go once a year but stay 7 nights so it would definitely be worth the money.

thanks.....Lori

There have been several questions like this on the forums and I believe that you have to have the AP in hand when calling to get the AP discount. When you call Disney directly and ask for quote for an AP rate, they ask for your name and address and verify that you have an AP. Someone on these threads said they are just trying to make certain they are giving the best rates to the present AP passholders. To be honest, we have had APs three times and never got any great discounts - we actually always luck out with some last minute offer that Disney offers (i.e got a rate of $94 a night at CBR for what ended up being a preferred view room last May and got a rate of $114 a night at CBR during peak season). Hope that helps.

Actually, you don't need the AP in hand when making reservations. I made April ressies for CSR at AP rate - Supposedly you do need it when you check in - I will be picking mine up the day I arrive but just before check in.

I say supposedly because some people have not been asked and got the AP rate. I have no intentions of doing this as I live my life honestly. I do plan on returning again in December so don't want to activate my AP until I absolutely have to - the day I check into CSR.

We do have AP's but have never been asked for it at check-in. Maybe this is because they are able to look it up on the computer when we check-in and they already know we have it. However, last year when we went in April, all we had was our voucher and did not pick up our AP's until the following morning. Maybe they do random checks, but in any case, you do not need an AP to book an AP rate. Hope this helps!

DNBois,

I believe what you were referring to was a post from someone who talked to a CM from CRO about changes that will be made sometime in the future. Disney is aware that many people fake owning APs knowing that many CMs don't ask for proof of AP ownership at check-in.

As it stands now, either an AP or voucher in-hand will work at check-in. A few people have reported that their CM wouldn't accept the voucher, but they are in the minority and my guess is asking for a supervisor should clear things up.

Thanks for the information. I will try checking in with just the voucher. That will make it easier as we check in before going to the parks.

The Disney Store at the airport (MCO) does sell annual passes that are active. You do not get a voucher there so that is an option on where to buy it. ANd that way it is active as you check in.
If you are going to activate it that same day, your arrival day, then it would be comforting to know that you have the correct pass to show at check-in.

Just my two-cents. I was asked to see the AP when I checked-in last October. That was my first trip using AP rates. My pass was active because I stayed three nights on Disney CLub discount and then a 4 night cruise so when I came back with family we had two rooms with AP rates and was asked for the AP.

Ease your mind and stop at the airport DS. I don't know how busy they are but whats a few minutes to make your vacation start off right.
