AP purchase on payments question

I usually pay for the AP's in cash but this year will be taking advantage of the payments plan.

In the past when I have pay for the AP's up front, they are not active until used the first time.

Is this still the case when making payments? i.e. I place my down payment today and start making the payments and then when we go in February and the AP is used: then the expiration clock starts ticking. Or will it start once I have purchased?

That's actually a really good question!! I'd love to know because I'm getting DBF an AP for Christmas and was going to use the payment system :goodvibes

This is a question that has been burning on my mind too. I have scoured the internet and site for answers to no avail. I am thinking it would be best to talk to Disney directly but if anyone has any insight or personal experiences it would be appreciated !

If you make payment or pay in full, the pass will still be activated when you enter a park and expire a year from that date.

The OP can buy it today, make the down payment and start making the 12 monthly payment. Use it in February and the next 12 months from then. No problem.

This is whati was told by a CM on another site.

Yup, you guys are correct!
I bought our AP's the week before thanksgiving and just used them for the first time yesterday and they were retroactive to that date.

I'm really excited about that, cause now we can go for Thanksgiving next year!

This is great news. Thanks everyone for your answers.

One of the big reasons that I didn't auto-renew is that I knew it'd be a while until we returned to DL and I didn't want the passes to be paid for and dormant for that time. Once I get passes I plan at least 3 trips to offset their cost.

Thanks for the great information..we may be able to become AP this year yet..lol. I was just worried about paying for them then them laying dormant as well. You guys are great :)
