AP payment plan ~ why wouldn't locals go Deluxe or Premium??

Money is money and a lot of people cannot afford $432 on un-necessary expenses. I think it's sort of like, "Why would someone own a VW Bug if they coud have a Porsche?"

Of course, there are people who just don't *need* or want a porsche.


My brother lives in San Diego, and he buys one day one park tickets when someone comes to town who wants to visit. It's truly painful for me, because he could buy that cheap AP for, what, two park tickets worth? 3? Augh.

But unless we had two or three planned trips inside of one year to visit him, it wouldn't be worth it to him, because he just doesn't go on his own. And my brother could definitely afford the porsche (AP or car, whichever we're talking about), but he just doesn't *want* it.

Of course, there are people who just don't *need* or want a porsche.

I hesitated as I typed that KNOWING that someone would say, "Who wants a silly sports car?"

But, I know what you meant. There are some in the world who just don't want to go to DLR everyday. But it's our obligation as fellow humans to love them anyway, isn't it?

As for your brother... what is it, something like 4 1day PHs + parking and he's got a Premium! OUCH!

I would compare it to buying a car. I don't look at the monthly payment, I look at the overall cost of the car before I decide to buy.

A concept that seems to be lost on many folks, unfortuntaely.


But even if folks were looking only at the monthly costs with the payment plan...

A family of 4 would be paying:

$122 a month for premium passes
with 365 days admission
approx. $1.20 pp for every available day

but only

$32 a month for So CA select passes
and they'd still get 170 days admission
approx. .99¢ pp for every available day

So couldn't an arguement also be made for why wouldn't all locals just go So CA select?
