AP pass timing

Planning on staying a few days in early October and taking advantage of the AP hotel discount. Will my AP have to be activated before I check in? I may not be going into the parks on this visit and would like to wait until we visit at Christmas this year to activate if they would allow.

While you can book an AP rate before purchasing an AP, you are supposed to at least show it at the desk before checkout. While you may get lucky and not be asked to show it, it is against the rules to use an AP rate while not having an active AP. They could change your rate to the non-AP rate, and October can be pricy.
