AP Parties?

We've been to two - a renewal event back in September of last year and the Indiana Jones event Mysteryincorp described. We actually changed our travel plans to add on a few days at the front end so we can do this AP party, lol...

The renewal event in DCA was my favorite, since they had a lot of rare characters - Darkwing Duck, Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope, and Remy, to name a few that we saw. The IJ one was a little rougher for us because we have a toddler and he decided not to fall asleep, so we couldn't attend the panels and the lines for a lot of the rides were busier for the first few hours of the party than they had been during the day. For the renewal parties, it doesn't seem like they let you know what the theme is until you go to pick up your bands!

By second week of September - do you mean the week of September 7th or the week after? The party's on August 31st or September 1st, and I don't think that Tuesday or Wednesday will be bad, but Thursday-Monday is going to be busy due to the half-marathon.

I ended up calling the Annual Passholder phone number because I wasn't getting mail or email. Turns out they had they the wrong/old information. There is no way to update your AP email/address online. I asked because I had updated it on my Disneyland.com account and the CM said they were two different systems.
Thanks for that info! Maybe that's why I have never received any mail/invitation, either. I will have to call and check. I am going to the AP event on 31 August, but only because I heard about it here and followed a direct link to the AP Event Registration page. Otherwise I never would have known about it. I actually had the choice of the August event or one back in April, but I chose August because a lot of the park was going to be closed for the April event.

I've never been to one of these before. Is it just like a normal evening in the park, except that it's just for APs, or do they do some special things, too? Does anyone know more about the 31 August event?

I have updated my email address with Disney probably 10 times, and they still send emails to the address I had 13 years ago when I got my AP. I know other people who have the same issue. You can't rely on them to send you email notices for events. Sometimes they announce them on the blog or social media and they're full before the email goes out.

They don't really tell you about the parties before you get there. I haven't been to one yet that is the whole park. So far each one has had a theme and there have been special character greets. At the last one they did special showings of the Golden Horseshoe Revue. I don't think they've given a lot of details about the next one, but I don't think it will include the west side of the park that they had open for the last one, just because HM will be closed, so they'll pick another area.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't really give a lot of detail about what's going to be open. We decided to go for it and will be attending the Sept. 1st event! We now are staying Aug 31st-Sep 4.

Does anyone have an idea what crowds are like once they clear the tourists? Really looking forward to this, and staying up till 1am!

The IJ one - which was open to any pass holder - initially felt much more crowded to us. IIRC, Pirates was like a 15 minute wait during the day but was probably more like 30 when the party first started. Some folks who stayed later than us said that it pretty much died down as it got later, though. Even with us not staying that late, DH got some amazing photos of the castle and the hub completely empty besides us.

The AP renewal parties are a little different since it's a much more limited pool of people they're pulling from. When we did the one in DCA, we didn't actually ride any rides, but I remember TSMM having a lower wait time.

Any way, I bet you'll have a great time! I'm looking forward to finding out what the theme is this time! Is anyone attending on the 31st who would report back for me, pretty please?

We'll be there for the 31st, but after staying up late and then probably going back for a while on Tuesday, I can't guarantee i'll remember to update. I'll try.... ;)

I'll report from in the park, I can't stay off my phone anyways!

I'm hoping they'll have one we can go to in January. Waiting to here the reports. :)

For the IJ one by the end of the event IJ was walk on and we were allowed to re ride without getting off.
