AP now vs Ticket upgrade to AP later : advantages?

Please help me look at both sides of my dilemma:

We are going back to WDW next summer and planning to get APs for our family of 4 (adult prices for all). I could buy APs (DVC) or buy UT tickets now before the coming price increase and convert to APs when we get to WDW next year (I have done this before with the price bridging, etc).

I certainly would love to save the $100+ by converting tickets! but My question for you experts is: is there any advantage to having an AP before we go? We don't need room discount since we stay on our DVC points, but I feel I am missing something here.

We have not returned to the mother ship since 2013 (pre-MDE/MBs/FP+) so still trying to understand all that entails. Thanx for any help & insight you can share!

UT tickets will work just fine.
You'll be able to make your advance FP+ reservations using the UT tickets and then convert to
AP (and keep the FP+s) after you arrive and use the tickets at a park before upgrading to AP.

I think the biggest risk is that no one knows for sure what is going to happen with tickets in the future. With the new APs it looks more like Disney will be going toward tiered pricing. The big question is what if you already have tickets from before the tiered pricing-what will those be worth. Could Disney possibly stop bridging tickets? They don't bridge tickets at DL.

Another potential problem is that you might find the best deal on say a 6 day ticket but plan to go for 8 days. You would only be able to book fast passes in advance for the 6 days.

Thanx for the help!

I guess the only 'perk' to getting APs now would be extra MBs then, yes?

How many days can AP holder book FP+?

Thanx for the help!

1. I guess the only 'perk' to getting APs now would be extra MBs then, yes?

2. How many days can AP holder book FP+?

1. You can get an AP MB, but only after you return home AFTER your first trip on which you activate the AP.
The AP MB will be mailed to you for use on later trips.

2. Seven, without a WDW resort stay.
-OR- up to the number of days you are staying at a WDW resort during an upcoming trip.
