We had reserved AKL with CODE CKO (Dec 9-16) and got a standard room for $119/night = $924 for 7 nights. We just called to get Length of Stay Passes added to it and we found out that buying an AP is cheaper than the 7 day Length of Stay Passes (cheaper by $4 thru AAA). Then we changed our CODE to the AP code CKN and our room went to $109/night = $847 total. Now we have a reason to return to WDW within the year since we now are AP holders!!!

Of course, the 7 day PHP gets you into everything, including waterparks, DisneyQuest, Pleasure Island. The standard AP doesn't.

I don't take advantage of water parks or DQ often, but I do go to PI frequently. So....I purchase the standard AP and a Pleasure Island AP. It's worth the savings to me vs. buying the Premium AP.

If you do any two or more of the auxillary parks, a Premium AP is worth the money.

If you are only going to be in the parks 7 days, an AP is not less expensive. Unused days never expire. (An AP/PAP certainly may be a better deal, though, if you can use it to get a discounted room and/or meal discounts. Only one person in the party needs to have an AP/PAP to qualify for the discounted room rates and meal discounts).

$325.44 / $308.46 Adult 7 day PHP / Adult 7 day PHP with DC discount

$369.94 / $354.04 New AP / New AP with DC discount

Prices include taxes. 7 Day PHP included 4 plus options. AP does not include any visits to the options

the best reason to do the AP route is........
that you go 1 year later and you get in FREE !!!!!!
this saves us about $600 on the 2nd trip !!!!!!!;)

I wanted to point out that the Park Hopper passes do NOT get you into Disney Quest (and the Plus features cannot be used for Disney Quest either). We unfortunately found this out the hard way after arriving at DQ ready to use our "plus" features. My husband ended up paying the extra $30 and going but I did not think it would be worth it for me so I walked around DTD while he enjoyed DQ. I assume that Premium APs include DQ, but not regular APs. We bought the 7 day park hopper plus passes, rather than APs, because we wanted to use those plus features and to use those with APs you would have to have a Premium AP which are much more. And we would have to make our next trip inside of one year to justify the APs. Park hoppers are more flexible.

I just buy the standard AP and the Pleasure Island AP. I don't go to water parks often enough to justify the expense, and it saves me a few dollars vs. the premium AP.

I just thought your last statement was interesting, because you *did* take at least 2 trips within a 12 month period.

I saw three trips between May 2001 and May 2002 listed in your signature. Best case scenario: You activate an AP towards the end of May, 2001. You return in October, 2001 (free admission).
You return again in May, 2002, ending your trip *just before* the passes expire.

That would be three trips on one annual pass. Or.....if your start date in May 2001 doesn't cover you until May 2002, you can get as much as you can out of your pass and purchase additional ticket media as you think you need it.

If your October trip (and following May) had the most combined days, then I would have activated it in October (provided the May/May scenario didn't work).

Ugh, I'm too wordy. LOL.

Actually, BriarRosie, if you start with 7/00 JLS made three trips within one year, or if you start with 12/00.....

Anyway, CarolMN's analysis looks correct. The most cost-effective use of the Plusses is on waterparks, and remember the Plusses never expire either, so those seven-day PHs with four plusses have a lot more value than the AP for a seven park-day visit.

Just to clarify..... I just realized that my signature was wrong (and I have just gone in and changed it)!! When I posted this, my "signature" still had a trip to the YC in 10/01 - we cancelled that due to the September 11th tragedy, so we only went to Florida in 7/00, 12/00 and then again in 5/02 (the other trips listed are to Disneyland, close to my home). Going again to WDW 5/03 (same week as in 02). I definitely wish that I had gotten the AP in 7/00 (when we were newbies and I had no clue, so did a length of stay pass through WDW travel for a 7 night stay), because we ended up returning in 12/00 and we could have gone to the parks for "free" then. But now we are going the same week every year (actually only 4-5 days), so one 7 day park hopper plus pass will be enough for us for admission for our 5/02 trip and our upcoming 5/03 trip. During the 5/02 trip we had 4 park days and only used 3 days of our hopper and one "plus" perk at BB, so we still have 4 days and 3 plus features unused. An AP would not work because it would expire at the time we got there. We would have to keep going a week earlier every year, if that makes sense....

What I really wish is that there was some kind of "Extra Premium Coast to Coast" AP that would include WDW and Disneyland. We are DL AP holders..... how great would that be?? I can only dream....
