I am thinking about buying an AP for our trip in early Dec. I was hoping to get a discount on the Disneyland hotel. I thought I had read a long time ago that you had to activate the AP before you could get any type of hotel discounts? Is this true? Also, are the discounts worth it? We would be buying a 77 day hopper so it's not that much of a difference price wise but just curious if the hotel discount will be worth it.
Thanks.

One "rogue" Cast Member told a Dis'er that she had to have an activated AP to check in with the special AP rate, but even if that were true (the second CM she talked to said otherwise, if I recall correctly, as have other CMs in the past) the Diser was still allowed to book the rates.

There is a normal perhaps 10% discount off rack rate for AP holders. But on occasion there are special rates like the current AP7 rate, which has PPH starting at something like, oh gosh I can't recall but it's good. You call and if you're going soonish, ask for AP7. Otherwise just the AP rate.

With a Deluxe AP, you get 10% discount on most foods. With the Premium (which has no blocked out dates, you could go every single day of your year if you wanted to) you get 15% off most foods, and 10% off most merchandise.

And there are various discounts in downtown disney, too.

Oh, and if you're only getting it for a hotel discount, just one of you needs to get the AP. :)

Oh yeah, just to be thorough, Howard Johnson Hotel offers a 20% discount for AP holders. :)

On the food and merchandise discounts it is not good everywhere and you have to spend at least $10. Not that that is hard to do...

The AP calender shows hotel discounts at all three resorts through Nov 30. These discounts are substancial, as much as 35%, but vary by the day week, events, etc. Not sure if they will be available in December. I kinda doubt that, but you never know!

I used the AP to check in last week. CM did not ask for it to make the reservation. However, by having the AP I could view the rates and dates I wanted.

I am glad I bought the AP, now I have to go back.
