AP- Fun Card (birthday gift card)

OK we went to Dland today and used my mom's ap with her b-day stuff. 1st off.. The computers can not read the bar codes!!!! So please make sure that you have the # written down so that they can punch it in... My mom waited 50 minutes in the line to get her 'fun card'. AKA $69 gift card..

As of today 1/6/09 the gift card can be used in either park and WOD. It does not all have to be used in 1 trip. That was the rules for today. From what the CM at the booth said it has been changing every few days.

But that is to be expected when ever something new comes up.
She was also able to use her AP to get a Discount with the gift card. so it was $69 with her 15% off on top of that. So added Value if you ask me!

Too bad I have to wait 354 days to use mine! But hey they should know what they are doing by then I hope!

There will be a bar code on the e-mail that they send you. Their computers are not able to read them. So make sure that you print the e-mail and that the # below the bar code is legible..

We got in line at 945am. Was helped about 1035 am. Finally got into the park by 11 am.

You go to the regular ticket booth. They had maybe 3 people working..

Depending on when your birthday is you could have a long wait if you have to go to the ticket booth. With the lines I saw at the start of January, it would have taken all day.

As for the gift card, they do not expire unless there is a printed expiration date on them. It's California law.

Do you have to go first thing? Or would it be smarter to go to the park first, come out in the afternoon and line up at the ticket booth for the birthday fun card then, when the lines are hopefully a little shorter?

Was she able to buy food with it? The Premium AP discount on merchandise is only 10%, but food is 15%, so I got a little confused, b/c I thought food wasn't part of the fun card.

That's great to know that you got the discount! Curious about the 15%. AP's usually get 10% unless purchasing food. Do you know why she got 15%? Or was it 10%? Thanks for clarifying.

According to the official terms & conditions on the website where you register, the card CANNOT be used on food. DB wanted to use his at Blue Bayou and Bengal BBQ, but it doesn't look like we can. Also, according to the website, it is ONLY valid for that one day. Whether or not it says so on the card, I have no idea - but to be safe, I wouldn't assume any remaining balance can be used on another day. (Even if a CM tells you so - they can be wrong).

There is a 'down side' to each freebie, from what I understand.

If you choose the FastPass, it's only valid for 4 (FastPass-friendly) rides, and they might run out if you arrive later than 11 or 11:30. (I believe). I would check the rides available first and see if it's worth it.

If you choose to get a ticket for another day, it will only be a 1 day, 1 park ticket. No back-and-forth to DCA. (Or, you can use this credit to buy an AP or upgrade your AP).

Ultimately, the Fun Card sounds like the best deal, to me.

Don't quote me... this is just from what I gather based on the fine print!

We will be checking at the Guest Services window when we go. We've always been allowed to upgrade our passes and purchase blackout tickets there, so maybe try that if the regular ticket lines are too long?

The reason I asked if it was used on food was b/c the OP mentioned her mom could use her 15% discount along with the card. Merchandise is only a 10% discount with the Premium, so it threw me.

There's been enough people mentioning the change in the DLR expiration date, based on the CA "giftcards can't expire" law, that I'd be comfy assuming it's been changed.

RomyMichelle21- Actually this was Disney's original plan but because of the California Laws they had to change the GC plan. You will be able to use the card for more then just your birthday. I am unsure what they will do in WDW, but in California its good for more then one day.

AS for going to the guest services.... They will direct you to the regular ticket line. It says so on the e-mail that you get...

My friend tried going to guest service after standing in line there for 15 min to go in the regular line for about 35..

Very cool about the extra discount your mom got with her coupon. Thanks for clarifying that. I think we were all just curious because it lets the money go further. It's not so much that people were complaining as we were just wondering since the AP discount is typically 10%.

We got Micah's on Wed the 7th. We went to City Hall and it took us about 10 minutes. We were not preregistered because everytime I tried to do that it told me Micah's b-day was invalid......interestingly enough. LOL And yes, I was doing it right. He was not able to use his card on food and we were told by one CM that he didn't have to use it all in the same day but he was told by another that he did have to use it all in the same day. He did, he bought himself a sweatshirt and the girls 2 toys. It was very easy...no ticket booths for us!

Originally, our trip was suppose to be 3 days (January 3,4,5) but my birthday was on the 6th. A CM told me about the 'Fun Card' since I am NOW officially an Deluxe AP holder - WOOOO. 4 out of 5 of us had APs, our other cousin had a park hopper & I just upgraded his.

When I got the Fun Card, I wanted to use it right away after the rides. Unfortunately the credit card machines were all down on Main Street & it seriously made me angry because you can only use the card on Disneyland property and we were leaving that day. After my 21st birthday lunch, I spent the $69 @ World of Disney in Downtown. I only have like $7 left on that card !!

There is NO expiration date on this card. You can only use it on merchandise ... but a CM @ Pooh's Corner told me that I could use it on my tigger tail .. hmmm.

Are Tigger Tails pre-wrapped, like a lollipop, and sold inside a regular gift shop? (I've obviously never gotten one, but I know what they are). Cuz if so, they probably qualify as "merchandise" - just like any candy with a barcode would.
