Does anyone have definitive rules regarding discounts in the shops/restaurants? The Annual Pass website has a footnote on the discounts for shops which is a bit vague - ie "except certain items". DLRP Magic says "all Disney locations". We found that some kiosks gave the discount (gifts and food) while others said it didn't apply to them and wouldn't believe that other similar outlets had applied the discount.

I don't have a problem if the discount doesn't apply, but it's not very magical to feel that you're being cheated because someone can't be bothered or isn't sufficiently trained.

It certainly didn't detract from our overall enjoyment, but little things like this tend to niggle away because I don't know whether I am right or they are?

Anyone know?

It used to be that the discount had to be applied by a card that the supervisor usually had - in some stores all staff on the tills had them but at the carts it was hit and miss - quite often they wouldnt be able to apply the discount as they didnt have the card to do so so its usually best to avoid the smaller carts

It isnt applicable on postage stamps - I remember having to put them through as a seperate transaction somewhere when I was buying other stuff as well

It's very inconsistent though - one place didn't have till, just a calculator, so I had no problem with that, but the big stand with all the ears at the bandstand didn't take it, while a small popcorn stand did (and applied the 20% discount). I quite quickly got used to getting the card out early and checking before buying - but it becomes a toss up between getting the drinks/snacks now with no discount, or queueing for ages in a counter service place in order to get the discount.

It must be irritating for the staff too, it's a pity they didn't have a logo or something (like they do in WDW for dining plan snacks).

When we had APs I found that basically if the cart took credit cards they tended to give the discount whereas if they were a cash only till they didn't.

I saw in your other post that the CM wouldn't give you the discount at Annette's because he said you'd shown it too late. Cheek of it, I'd have been fuming mad too, I never show my shareholders card (or AP when I had one) until I ask for the bill and if the CM brings the bill before I ask then that's their problem for being too presumptuous - how do they know I don't want another cup of coffee? ;)
