AP discounts on blacked out upgrade day?

We have 3 day park hopper tickets I bought online. We've decided to upgrade to a deluxe AP as soon as we arrive which is a Saturday in August which is a deluxe pass blackout day. I understand the process to do this to get into the parks that day but my question is: on a blackout day for my pass will I be able to get the dining and merchandise discounts inside the parks? I'm just trying to see if it makes sense for us to upgrade as soon as possible (the rest of the days of my trip are not blacked out for the deluxe pass - only that first day). We'll definitely be doing some on site dining and the dining discount is one of the reasons we decided to do the upgrade.

We'll be at the ticket booth around noon (flying in that morning) and am hoping the lines aren't too bad at that point but if they were we'd probably wait until later in the day to upgrade. Does anyone know what the lines at the booths tend to be like on Saturdays noonish in August?

I've only done that once, a long time ago, but I Don't remember not being able to use the discounts. I would think the upgrade fee allows you all the benefits of a your pass on that day. Ticket booth lines are always long in the summer, but that late, may not be too bad. They try to move you through pretty quick

I can't speak for the blockout day upgrade, but the AP discounts are valid on blockout days. I was just at DLR and on a blockout day (Saturday) I was still able to get my AP discount at World of Disney, Marceline's, Pin Traders, and Brennan's Jazz Kitchen.

ANY line at the ticket booths will seem long when you're itching to get into the parks. Try the booths over on the Harbor Blvd. side of the esplanade, they are usually much shorter.

You should be able to use your discount anywhere in the parks, even if your pass is blocked that day.
