We are hoping to go in August 2014 for 14 nights. 5 at POR and 9 at a 1 bedroom villa (haven't decided on the resort). Since we will be there for 14 nights it makes sense to get an AP - also so we can get a TIW card. I've looked through Mousesavers and it seems more than likely there will be an AP discount for the time we want to go, however, I've been told that AP discounts are spotty at best and that I shouldn't really rely on them. Is that true? Are my chances pretty iffy? I'm thinking of booking at room only rate with a AAA discount - is it pretty easy to change it over to an AP discount when and if it becomes available? TIA. :goodvibes

I would get the AAA discount and then change to AP when it becomes available. It is very easy to change (just a matter of them changing one discount code to the other).

FYI, AP rates for August 16 2013 and beyond just came out last week so be prepared to wait a long time next summer for them. Sadly, many resorts are sold out by the time they are released as well. I wouldn't be as worried about getting the AP rate applied to POR since it has a large inventory, but you are taking a chance with a 1 BR Villa, especially at the more popular DVC places.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for your reply. I guess it is a real calculated risk but I think I'm going to try it. I know I probably wouldn't be able to get a 1 brm at BCV or BWV but I would be happy with SSR. My daughter loves anything to do with horses so she would be thrilled to be there. If not, I may try a last minute rental - oh decisions, decisions. Worse case scenario I get some sort of discount. Fingers crossed.
