AP discount question

Hi,
I am thinking of booking a trip in Oct 2010 (a long time I know) - it would be 2 weeks in a moderate resort (I am from the UK) and I have a question. Is it worth getting an annual pass nearer the time in case an AP discount is released or is it unlikely in October (probably last 2 weeks)? I would only use the AP for the discount and for those 2 weeks. How far in advance do these discounts typically come out and what sort of % value?

Or, is it possible to wait and see if an AP discount comes out and then get an AP if it does? Or would this take too long and miss the discount? Do you need the AP at the time of applying the code or just when you come to pay or check in?

Also, do Disney Resorts often offer AAA discounts, how far in advance and what sort of %? The UK version of AAA (AA) is eligible for AAA discounts.

We do not get sent Pin codes in the UK by the way.

Sorry, lots of questions, but any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matthew :)

1) You can book a room or a package at the AP rate (if there is one; there isn't always) without actually having the AP or the AP voucher in hand. You can buy it after you book. When I got my AP, I bought it after I checked in (upgrading MYW tickets), and no one ever asked to see it.

2) AAA offers discounts of 10-20% off rooms at Disney, depending upon the season (Value, Regular, Summer, Holiday) and the level of resort. The only time there is no AAA discount is from Dec. 18 - Jan. 1. Of course, this holds for 2009; it's not clear what will happen for 2010.

Have fun!

We just called this week to get prices for Oct 2009 with or without an AP. If the room rate was worth it, we were going to buy the AP.

For POFQ Oct 1 to 11 - I was quoted $170 for AP and $144 for AAA. I think this is crazy! AAA gets a better rate?

Ask for both rates then make a decision.

Thanks both for the advice. The fact that you can book on an AP discount before buying the AP surprised me (pleasantly) as Dreams Unlimited advised me that this wasn't the case.

I thought I'd check it on here as it seemed contrary to other Disney practices.

Matthew
