AP Discount on Tickets

DH and I have APs. We are travelling this October with DH's parents and our 11-year old son and we want to buy 2-day 2-park tickets for them. I understand, as AP holders, we get a 15% discount on the gate price of multiday tickets, is that correct?

In order to get the tickets, do we actually have to go to the park or is there anywhere at the hotel (we are staying at RPR) that we can buy the discounted tickets? We are not arriving until around 7pm (at the earliest) so don't want to go to the parks that night but would like to get the tickets, of possible, as we want to take advantage of early entry at IOA on our first morning.

I can answer this question - we booked our room direct with www.loewshotels.com back in January, then when the AP rates were released a couple of weeks ago, I rang and asked them to apply the Passholder rate. Unfortunately, there were only water view rooms available but I still saved over $100 on the 2 rooms we had booked anyway so I was quite happy.

We also have APs and are travelling with my parents who don't. I emailed about it and this was the response I received:

Preferred Passholders receive 10% off single day ticket purchase and 15% off multiple day tickets.
You may purchase discounted tickets via phone at 1 866 PASS 4 FUN or at the theme park.

We are going on Saturday, and my plan is to call and order the tickets over the phone. From what I understand, they can then be picked up at a kiosk at the Universal resorts. We also want to get an early start at the park, so avoiding the ticket lines is a must for us! I'll report back and let you know how it goes!

As for booking an AP room...you can go to the Universal website and under promo code, enter APH. That will pull up all available passholder rates. So it's easy to check rates and just book through the website.

As far as I am aware you can only get one discounted room per AP. You can only buy APs direct from Universal, not from Undercover Tourist.

Yup, I have booked 2 rooms with the discount but everyone in my family has an AP so the second room is covered.

Sorry for hijacking the thread....we are a family of 6 (2 adults 4 kids). We would like adjoining rooms. When I book thru the site I have to list 1 adult per room. Can we book two rooms with an ap discount even though the reservation says there will be one adult per room?

Here is what I think my plan should be based on what I am reading on the boards. Call Universal and buy 2 adult annual passes, then buy 12 of the 4 day P2P at the discounted rate. We pick these up at the resort at check in on arrival.

I would like to use the AP discount to book the following rooms, 1 for each family:
Room 1 - King Suite - Adult/Adult
Room 2 - Kids Suite - Adult/Child/Child/Child
Room 3 - Kids Suite - Adult/Adult/Adult/Child
Room 4 - Kids Suite - Adult/Adult/Child/Child

I would not say that meets the criteria of "needing" a second room for a child under 18.

It also sounds like the AP discount is only based on availability. It is not a discount on whatever room we choose to book, it is a discount on rooms they choose to offer with limited availability. Do I understand that correctly?

In your scenario, you could be asked to produce an AP for each room booked using AP discount. You are right in that AP discount on Universal hotels is not an entitlement and is based purely on availability. We have had to book a water view room to get the discount in October as the standard rooms were nor available with the AP discount (probably all booked as only a certain number are eligible).

I think your fine with one pass for discount in both rooms. Call the hotel and double check but since your family has 6 people you have to have 2 rooms so they should allow two rooms for you, I think.

On a somewhat related note...

Went to Universal last weekend with my parents. I had emailed passholder services a few weeks before and was told that I could get 1 day passes for them for 10% off - just call the AP#.

When I called to order them (so I could just pick them up when we arrived), I was told there was NO discount for 1 day tickets. I read her the email I received and finally, after 30 min on the phone, they agreed to give me the discount "just this once".

According to the person on the phone, the benefits have recently changed (since I received the email, I guess), but they would honor it for me.

Not sure how much of that's all true, but it was a pain in the butt just to save $20!

you can book two rooms with the AP if you have children under the age of 18, and need another room for them if your family is more than 5 people.

you will be listed in one room with some of your children and then your spouse will be listed in the second room with the rest of your children.
you would not have to buy a second AP to do this.

I am pretty sure our group will not be able to book 2 AP discount rooms with 1 AP. Based on what I am reading, our group will only receive an AP discount for 2 rooms if we buy 2 AP's to get the ticket discounts. Of course, it never hurts to ask!

I think you will be OK if you are booking a second room for dependent children. Like you say, it doesn't hurt to ask
