AP Discount - How does it work?

Right now, we have a room only reservation booked with our AAA discount (through Disney and not AAA).

If AP rates come out for our travel time (late April), I was thinking about buying an AP for my DH only (room ressie under his name) so our room would qualify for the rate. If we do this, we also want to purchase the DDE.

We will buying the rest of the family's park tickets from Undercover Tourist.

If the AP discount will apply to our room (Poly Club Level), can we do this? I mean, only buying one AP for my DH. We will not be heading back to Disney anytime soon so I don't want to buy APs for the rest of the family.

A side note, do the AP discounts generally apply to Deluxe Club Level rooms?

Yes, they do apply to a limited number of club level rooms. Call early and often.

And yes, you only need one AP to get a room at the discount. (One AP per room, you used to be able to get 2 rooms with 1 AP.)

We were having the same dilemma, and I finally bit the bullet and booked a package thru AAA, cancelled my room-only AAA discount thru Disney. Gave up on other Disney discounts and realize the DDP will be a good value for us. Was afraid if I waited longer that availability of our desired room category through AAA would go away. I hope you get a wonderful discount!

Does the AP have to be activated when you check in, or will the voucher work? I want to know if I have to make a stop at DTD or the parks to get it activated before we would check in.

I did this for our trip last June. I had room booked at YC with AAA rate. I checked these boards every day looking for AP release. The morning they came out I called and was able to change our res. to the AP rate. I then ordered my AP from the CM who changed my res. Called and ordered the DDE next. Just now ahead of time what rate will save you money before you change. Sometimes AP rates are great sometimes not.
