AP discount booking question

We are first time AP holders. I would like to surprise my DH with a Halloween trip for his birthday in October. I would like to book asap in order to get ADRs before Free Dining is announced. Is it better for me to book the room discount when it first comes out and transfer reservation to AP discount- or wait for AP discount to come out? We are hoping to get CL at either Contemporary or Poly. Any advice appreciated.

I would book what you would like now so you can get the 180+10 ADR advantage when your ADR window opens. When the discounts come out, you can always apply a discount to an existing reservation if your resort/room category is included in the discount inventory OR simply change resorts/rooms to something that's in the discount inventory. Your ADR's aren't connected to your resort reservation so if you end up modifying (adding a discount or switching to get a discount) your ADR's won't be affected.

I agree with @DisneyWishes14!!

Only thing I would re-emphasize is that it's not always a given you'll be able to apply a discount - either a general public or AP discount - to your reservation as Disney's usual "the number of rooms allocated to this offer" disclaimer always applies. But, I usually find discounts for both somewhat readily available for Poly and CR CLs in the fall, so I wouldn't be 'too' concerned (although you still have to pay attention to when they come out and move quickly).

Agree with above and .... you do not need a hotel reservation to book your ADRs, you just give up the plus 10. You might even be in your 180 so book them asap, you can always adjust them.
