So I have quite a confusing questions to ask -
We are from UK and have booked our hotel and flights with a local travel agent staying at POFQ. We are having an Escape wedding (september 2012)and therefore will get the AP which we will activate as soon as we land in Orlando. I have read that AP holders can add Disney Dining plan to their reservation.
So my questions are -
1.) Can we add dining on even though we would not have activated our AP's until we get there?
2.)Can we add dining without buying extras tickets?
3.)If disney are offering free dining during our stay will we still be eligible for this?
4.) How would we go about adding it? Ring disney? Ring our travel agents?

Hope this is not confusing!!

Hi sweetie - I am not sure, but I think that for AP holders to book the dining plan, they have to book a package which includes their accommodation. Since your accommodation is already booked, I am not sure whether you would be able to add it on or not. Here is some info I found for you from the Mom's panel.

'The Disney Dining Plan is available to WDW Annual Passholders. Passholders must also book a WDW resort hotel room and they will be eligible to purchase the Dining Plan. When you call to make your room reservations at 407-W-DISNEY, explain that you have an Annual Pass (or that you would like to buy one) and they will be able to help you. If you have any follow-up questions, the Annual Pass office can also provide assistance. They can be reached at 407-560-PASS.

As an aside, Disney Vacation Club members staying at a WDW resort on points are also eligible to purchase the Dining Plan if they also are buying park tickets or have an Annual Pass.'

Who have you booked with? If it is directly with Disney UK, I would give them a ring and ask. If it is with an different travel agent, I am not at all sure where you would ask (or if they would even understand the finer points of the AP and it's restrictions/benefits - in my experience, many UK travel agents do not!!).

I am pretty sure you could not access the free dining without purchasing a package which included tickets.

Have you considered the 'Tables in Wonderland' scheme as an alternative to the DDP? Here is what WDWinfo has to say about this scheme

'Tables in Wonderland (TIW), formerly the Disney Dining Experience, offers Florida Residents and Annual Passholders 20% off of all food and beverage purchases at the participating Disney restaurants. It is a membership program with annual fees.

The price is $75.00 for an Annual Passholder, $50.00 for a second card. For a Florida Resident who is not an Annual/Seasonal Passholder, the cost is $100.00. It is $50.00 for lost/replacement cards.

The TIW Card can be purchased at any Disney Guest Services location. Annual Passholders and/or Florida Residents need to provide proof of eligibility. Note that TIW membership requires that you be age 21 or older.

If you are dining at a Disney Resort with valet parking and are using your TIW card, they will waive the valet parking fee. Be sure to advise the attendant and show your member card.

NOTE: Your check will have an 18% gratuity added regardless of party size.

The TIW discount is not available on holidays including New Year’s Eve, Year Year’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Certain restrictions may be applicable. Participation is subject to change'.

I am sure somebody more in the know than I am will come along to help more!!!

Yes free dining is on when you're there but you would have had to buy a package that included hotel & tickets.

If your intending to use your APs I would not bother with the DDP, if you are paying for it you have to eat A LOT to make it worthwhile. As Joanne suggests get the TIW card instead.
