There is a Saturday in May that we are thinking about going but we are blocked out with are DAP. It is my understanding that we can pay $30 to still get in.
What I want to know is do we have to go to the ticket booth and do this or is this something that can be done at the turnstile? Can I do a purchase ahead of time so we don't have to wait in line?

You need to go to the ticket booth, and it can only be done on the day you plan to use it. They will give you a paper ticket (looks like a park hopper). You'll use the ticket and your a/p to get in that day. You'll use the paper ticket for fast pass.

You can also get them through guest services off to the left of the DL entrance. I did this last year, and wanted to get the passes early so that we could go line up for EE (we were staying on-site). I was told that I could not get them prior to the day of use, however, we were still able to get them in plenty of time for EE. We got them through guest services, which opened up a little before the ticket booths.

I don't know if DH's was malfunctioning...but one day both his AP and his blackout ticket were spitting out Fastpasses!
