AOA LM or AS? Which AS?

DH, son, and I are planning an eight-day visit to the Mouse mid to late August 2018. Son will be 14 then. We haven't been to WDW since 2007. We will drive from NJ, visit Kennedy Space Center for a day, then arrive at WDW. As we are on a budget, we will probably stay at a value although I'm hoping for a discount that would make a mod affordable for us.

For now, though, we are trying to decide between AOA LM or AS (and which AS). As for the AS, I like the theming of AS Movies the best. DH and son really don't care (I'm the planner). We will probably, at least some days, take a break during the day for pool time.

Any advice would be appreciated. I know I'm planning very far in advance, but for me planning is half the fun :) Thank you!

AoA has a great food court, and the resort is newer. Because of the suites, the amenities are better than any of the other value hotels. I'm not entirely sure if the LM rooms have coffee makers or not - we have only stayed in the suites. If you can afford the mod, I would definitely go that route.

I don't think a 14 year old boy will be thrilled with a Little Mermaid hotel room (heck, I am not drawn to them either), and they're the furthest location from the food court and transportation.

I just got back from a preferred room at All Star Sports. It was in Surf's Up, which my DD thought was cool. It was close to the food court, and first night we enjoyed the room service (had pasta dishes). For the bus transportation, when we shared a bus, we were picked up first, so always got a seat (well, DD uses a wheelchair, so they load us first).

I would think a teenager would prefer All Stars or even Pop over a Little Mermaid room, unless it's someone who is a huge fan of LM.

AS Sports will be well themed for your 14 yo and will probably have the best discount, you always can plan a meal at AoA food court, or try Pop century it will be great for you and your teen and is at a walking distance from AoA

I agree with PP's who suggested ASSp as a good option at the AS as well as POP Century as a good alternative to staying in the LM rooms in AoA. ASMo is nicely themed as well, but the sports is a little more geared to a 14 YO boy, IMO. Sports is also the first pick up and drop off when AS buses are shared (ASMo is last).

Hopefully you will get a good discount at one of the mods, but meanwhile either of these value resorts should be fine.

Enjoy!!

THIS.

I'd likely go POP for his age and then wander to AoA to check it out, take some pictures and eat in their food court.

Second choice would be Sports. Have stayed about 4-5 times in last couple years and have had good visits each time.
