Ok so this is my first time at AoA and we r staying at the mermaid rooms. While reading up on this resort I am now coming to realize that apparently it involves a long wAlk to the buses. So actually how much long are we talking about ? I will be there with 7,4 and stroller infant. Should I look towards changing resorts ? Is it that bad a deal ?

The Little Mermaid rooms have always been a ripoff IMO. They're in the buildings they originally built for phase II of Pop, so they're the same size as the other value rooms but cost considerably more just because they're at AoA. They also always exclude them from discounts, which really doesn't make sense to me.

The Little Mermaid rooms are actually themed to the movie and are less generic than the other value rooms, so I understand why they charge a bit more. Plus you get all the perks of staying at AoA which has the best pools of all the values. I wouldn't bother trying to switch this late. My opinion is also skewed by the fact I don't have kids, so I don't see a whole lot beyond the dollar signs ha.

Your 7 and 4 year old will love this resort. And like Doug said the main pool is AWESOME!!! Do yourself a favor and keep this reservation.

The walk isn't that bad..... The pool is awesome!!!!!!!! We were going to stay there this next year but we stayed there last year and want to try a different resort ;)

I stayed there last month and had your same concern. The walk wasn't terrible ... took us about 7 minutes from the food court to our room in the Triton section. The pool was amazing, the food court is one of the best at Disney for sure and the theming is out of this world. Keep your reservation, you'll love this resort.

I posted this in a previous thread:

I realize the decision has been made by op but for anyone else contemplating the same question I will reiterate what many here have already said.

Those Mermaid rooms are deceptively far from the busses and main building. I am someone who works 40+ hours a week on my feet and I go for a 6 km walk most nights and I must say, that walk was an added pain for us after long days in the parks. There was absolutely no point to getting a refillable mug, we used them twice, when we ate in the AOA food court.

Even walking the distances to the various Pop bus stops at the parks and DS didn't bother me. I enjoy walking and know it's a huge part of a Disney vacation. But for some reason that walk to/from the Mermaid rooms felt like I was walking home to Canada some days.

Just my .02. Maybe if we keep harping on how far that walk is you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get there! :D

It kind of depends which building you are in. They are set in a triangle, so some of the rooms are closer than others. I would request to be close to the lobby or close to transportation. You won't really be "close", but the walk won't be much different than for some of the Lion King or Cars sections.

Overall, I say keep the reservation. The feature pool is phenomenal. We stayed here, I initially booked Mermaid room. I had my mother, grandmother, and two toddlers with me. After the initial walk to the room and back, I decided to ask a CM how much to upgrade to the Lion King suites because I didn't want to make my grandmother walk that and dragging two toddlers along every day. She gave me quote, I said ok, and then somehow the CM on the other end of the phone misquoted and it was more than originally stated. So I said nevermind, we will stay put. They then just gave us the upgrade to Lion King for free! So, it's worth a shot asking once you get there if you are finding it to be too much.

Keep it. The LM rooms are no farther than the farthest rooms at POP or ASMu. AND the walk is through Lion King with awesome Boneyard, then the LM pool area is full of imagineering treasure. The entire resort is a treat to walk around the take pictures. Cars, you are IN the movie. The food court is one of the better ones on property with a wide offering and I think the "quiet" aka secondary pools are way better than any others. I do think the LM rooms are overpriced since they are the same as other values but that comes with being at AoA which is a touch better ............. I'd like discounts but until they see them sit empty, won't happen.

When you make your requests just make it "Close to Transportation" and no other and hopefully it will get you close as possible.

We always thought it was a lovely walk, through all the cute scenery. We would always take our refillable mugs with us and pop into the food court on our way too and from the parks. It was a nice little routine.

Keep the reservation! It's a fantastic resort. :)
