Weds 29th

We were up at 8am, we showered and bid farewell to Pop Century. I had a last minute shopping spree in Everything Pop while Andy checked us out. We then jumped in the Jeep and drove to the Contemporary. I loved the drive there and I snapped away.

ooh look, nearly there!

At the guard gate, we talked to a lovely man – who originally was from Leicestershire – and we found out his daughter lives only 10 minutes away from us – it’s a small world after all etc. We decided to try valet parking here as it was only $6 a day unlimited. We drove to reception and handed the keys to the valet once we’d taken out our overnight bag – cool!

The line for checking in was enormous. We queued for nearly 30 minutes.

later on in the day

Finally we were seen. First we were told there was no room for us. Then we were told there were no Magic Kingdom view rooms left despite the fact that I’d requested one. Great start. The CM went away to make a phonecall and came back with a room – room 4808 on the 12th floor. I’ll have to look into it when I get back as I requested the 14th floor in my quote and I thought that’s what I had paid for, I guess not! (Newsflash – I still haven’t looked into it yet!) Still, 12th floor concierge was lovely. We were very impressed. We had to stick our card in the slot above the floor buttons to get access to our floor. The lift opened out to the concierge lounge. There was a huge table laid out with cookies, brownies, lemon cake, nibbles, fruit, water, tea and coffee, sofa, juice, ice and wine. We went straight to our room and dumped down our bag. I loved our room. It was very funky and huge.

Our balcony was fabulous. Andy wasn’t sure about being up on the 12th floor at first and his legs gave out a few times.

We had a gorgeous view of Kissimmee to International Drive, the Islands of Adventure lighthouse, and, to my excitement, Epcot. Woohoo, I’d get to see Illuminations! We could see the pool area and garden view rooms, as well as the Marina – I loved our view!

We decided to check out the lounge after taking loads of photos. We had diet coke, a cookie and lemon cake slice each plus I had to try the brownie. It was all very yum. We then changed into our swimwear and went for a dip in the pool. It was freezing cold! I think there was a problem with the water pumps or something as the hot tub wasn’t on or open either, which was a shame – we’d both really looked forward to trying it. We stayed in the pool for about an hour. I thought the round smaller pool was adults only but I guess it’s not as there were 2 really annoying boys in there. We went back to our room to dry off and change and headed down to the Food and Fun Center on the 1st floor to check it out.

On the way, we stopped at the Concierge desk to see if we could get in at the California Grill that night. No chance, it was full booked for the whole week. We were able to get a table at the Concourse Steakhouse however for 6.40pm so we took that.

The Food & Fun Center is on the 1st floor near the check in desk. They cook all the food to order here. We both ordered the chicken strips burger which was very tasty and some chili cheese fries. One of the refillable mugs was purple so hubby insisted I get one to add to my collection. We drank a fair few refills that day. We liked the fixings bar in there, which had pickles, onions and salad, plus they had so many different sauces and dressings.

mmm the fixings bar!

After our quick bites, we headed to the 4th floor to look in the shops. I bought some refills for my pin trading folder at the pin station, and in BVG I bought my Mum a Mickey shaped bottle stopper, a golf ball holder for my Dad and a Mickey Mouse holdall which had been reduced from $26 to $12!

We went into the main shop and bought some beer for Andy and the woman behind the till only charged him $2, which was the price of one can, and Andy had a 6 pack! No complaints from us so we left rather quickly.

We went back up to our room for some rest. We lazed until gone 6 and left about 6.30 for our meal at the Concourse Steakhouse. They were turning people away, saying there were no tables at all so I guess we were lucky to get our PS. The big head in front of us in the line commented to one couple “hey, I booked this PS 2 months ago so why should you get a table?” Erm, how rude? The couple just ignored him. When it was our turn, we were given pagers and told it would be 10 minutes. It was more like 5, and we got seated before Mr “I booked my PS 2 months ago” which really seemed to wind him up. *Blows raspberries*. Ok, back to being an adult for me.

Once seated, we ordered our drinks and I was amused to find we had the same server, Ali, who had served me previously in July. How funny! I recommended Andy try the five cheese onion soup as I’d had it before and I knew he’d love it. We both had the soup, I had the penne pasta with artichoke hearts, asparagus, tomatoes, olives and basil pesto with an added chicken breast, and hubby had the pair of grilled chicken breasts with polenta and red pepper aioli. He didn’t like the polenta but he ate the rest. My meal was lovely, if a little rich.

of course I'm smiling, I've got my fave soup!

We decided to push the boat out and ordered dessert. We both had the cheesecake which was divine – I can’t remember what cheesecake it was though.

mmm cheesecake!

The total cost of our meal with 3 Coors Light for hubby and endless soda for me was $80, which we thought was good value for such a good 3 course meal.

last part....

After our meal, we sat in the Outer Rim bar for a drink or two. Hubby had some more Coors Light and I had a rum cocktail, mmm. We stayed in the bar until just gone 9m as I wanted to watch Illuminations from our balcony. It was a real treat – the fireworks looked gorgeous from here and you could hear some of the music.

I was disappointed with my photos, hardly any of them came out

We were also treated to fireworks from both Universal and Seaworld!

At 10.05, it was our turn for the Electrical Water Pageant. I thought this was really cute, as did hubby. He recorded it too. Unfortunately my photos didn’t come out at all well.

the best of a bad bunch!

We then got into bed and watched the rest of Whose Line Is It Anyway. I fell asleep during That 70’s Show, so I guess I was more tired than I thought.

coming next: it's time to go home :guilty:

Anz :earboy2:

I cannot believe how big your room is Anz! It looks like you had a great view (despite it not being what you had hoped for)

A big THANK YOU, Anz, for including the photos of your room at the Contemporary. Very thorough job you did, too. For all the times I've been in the lobby there on my way to a restaurant or shop, I've never been in a room. My imagination had not done the place justice and I really like the retro futuristic decor. And the views! No wonder you picked this place for your special treat.

Funky room - hope the headboard didn't bring back your migraine ;)

Meant to say how well your hubby did finding joggers - my DH couldn't find any nice cosy ones, they were all nylon "rude boy" styles in yukky colours :sad2: - perhaps you got the best ones :goodvibes
