Day 4 - Sunday 26th

We’re woken by the phone ringing about 7.15am. It was my mum ringing to see how things were going. We chatted for awhile and promised to stay keep in touch. The wind and rain was still howling, the noise was incredible. We were still confined to our rooms. A while later we tuned into Local 6 news again and they were saying how they’d arrested 7 people for breaking the curfew and 3 juveniles who broke into a school and who caused thousands of dollars worth of damage? What is wrong with some people? Apparently there are a lot of people without power but so far, we have been ok. I’m guessing that Disney has their own back-up power so even if it went out, it wouldn’t last long.

We had breakfast of cereal and milk (and Andy had some tie-dyed cheesecake and me some carrot cake) and watched a bit more news. Downtown Orlando and Kissimmee still looked like they were being really battered. I’m just hearing on the news that one of the hotels on the 192 had to be evacuated due to some damage above room 1415 possibly. I managed to go back to sleep for a few hours.

It’s now 11.30ish and we stepped outside to survey what was going on. It’s so blustery and the rain is really lashing. I’m amazed at the amount of people walking around in their ponchos! Two men are standing at the end of the corridor, right on the corner - no protection of all. They can just about stand up! The trees outside are partly bent over. Andy says that some of the workers were outside pumping an area as it was starting to flood. The lake looks full and very grey. We’ve had one message this morning saying that we were still to stay indoors and that Everything Pop was unlikely to open for breakfast or lunch. We’ll have to see if it opens for dinner.

We tried to take this during the hurricane but everything steamed up:

It’s now 2.20pm and nothing different to report. Gusts are at times still up to 90mph! There are loads of people out in it though, not sure how smart that is.

Later on, Andy noticed people coming back with their mugs and as a CM passed our doorway, Andy asked him if the food court was open. He said it wasn’t officially open but the side door was open and people were getting drinks. I managed to spend about 15 mins online and I came offline to ring my mum which was about 5pm. We had a nice chat for 10 minutes or so. We stuck our heads outside again to see what was happening. As we were stood outside watching what was going on, we saw a family leaving with their cases and the biggest cooler I’ve ever seen. We came back in and I tried to go back online but AOL said there was no dial tone. It was only then we noticed that we had no phone at all.

About 6pm, there was a knock on the door. It was a CM doing a head count and he asked our names. It made me wonder if there were other families that had left without physically checking out - why else would they be checking who was in their rooms? We told him about the problem with our phone and he said he’d look into it.

Another hour or so passed. Andy looked out and he saw people coming back to their rooms with pizza boxes and other stuff. We figured that the food court had opened and as our phone was busted, we hadn’t gotten the message. We decided to go check it out, even though we knew it would be heaving. We got absolutely soaked walking to the food court and it's not that far from our room. The food court was heaving but it was nice to finally be out of the room. They were serving a few things off the menu at each counter. You could get cheese or pepperoni pizzas, noodles, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, meatball subs etc. We grabbed a burger and some chicken tenders. We’d forgotten our mugs so we bought a 2 litre bottle of diet coke to take back with us. It cost us $3.49 for the 2 litre bottle, yet if you buy a regular bottle from the machines it costs you $2.50!! Anyway, we found somewhere to sit and ate our dinner, it was nice to have some hot food. We then took a wander round instead of going straight back to our room.

In Classics Hall, there were character signings, such as Donald Duck and Minnie. As you can imagine, the lines were horrendous. The check-in/out line was also horrendous - I’m not sure if it was people checking out or what. There was no guest services when Andy went to enquire about our phone but it turned out that quite a few people had phone problems.

We had a look in the shop to pass the time, looking at pins etc. We’d been out of our room about an hour when we decided to head back. The winds were still quite strong but the rain had stopped. There were even people in the 60s pool!

By the time we’d got back to our room, our phone was working and we had the message about the food court being open. The message also said to check the TV for the park hours for tomorrow. The only place not opening is Typhoon Lagoon, so I’m guessing it sustained some damage. Magic Kingdom opens from 9am til 8pm, Epcot from 10 til 9, MGM from 10 til 8 and Animal Kingdom from 9 til 5. Downtown Disney also reopens. We decided that seeing as Andy was disappointed we hadn’t gotten to Universal yet that we’d head there on Monday. Universal is also open so the plan for tomorrow is Universal in the morning, Epcot late afternoon, then over to the Contemporary for our 7pm PS at Chef Mickey’s before heading back to Epcot for Illuminations. I’m glad that this madness is over!
