Anyway take/buy a humidifier while staying at hotels?

It seems like every time we travel, the hotel rooms are so dry that one of us gets a stuffy nose/cough during the trip. I've thought about either bringing a small one for the kids, or buying a cheap one once we arrive. Anyone ever done this? I just hate dealing with the dryness.

I don't take one, however I will set cups of water around in the room and allow steam from the shower to be retained (rather than using a vent if one is available). It generally keeps the humidity in room to a tolerable level.

Thanks for the idea. I'll keep that in mind!! :thumbsup2

It's Florida....I don't know that you will even need a humidifier. I went in Janurary and the air literally dripped with moisture.

We must just be in a dry hotel, because each of the past 4 years we've stayed, I've always said how much I regret not bringing one! Wish I could bottle that air and bring it into our room!! ;)

I have found that we tend to keep the air conditioner set colder and run it more often in hotels that we do at home, which dries the room out quite a bit - even when it's unbelievably humid outside. Last year I started traveling with a humidifier and I was shocked at the difference it made! For the first time, I came home from a vacation without a sore throat and sniffles. We drive to Florida, so it's easy for us to throw the humidifier into the car. I'm not sure I'd take it when flying, but I'd certainly try Dani C's suggestions. I've also started putting a cup of water in the car cupholder when we travel, since the air conditioner on long trips in the car always gives me a sore throat, and that seems to help as well.

ETA - Another plus I've found about the humidifier is that it works great as a "white noise" machine. It helps me not focus on any noise that might be coming from outside the room, or any snoring that might be coming from inside the room! Before we started using the humidifier I was using the TV to drown out any noises, which the other people in the room didn't particularly enjoy.

You could leave the door open for a while when you are in the room, and just turn off the AC.

On our trip, 2 years ago, both of my dd's were just getting over head colds so we brought their little one I use in their room and it worked great. Any time the heat is on, in a room, it will dry it out some. Since we are going back in Dec we will take it again.

Try getting a towel wet and hanging it (using a hanger) from the air conditioner vent.

You can use a clean towel every day to avoid bacteria growing.

I've filled the tub with water in one hotel I stayed at in Calgary because it was so dry.

I've never had a problem in Florida though.
