Anything to NOT miss at Downtown Disney?

We are thinking of going there our arrival day.

PLan - if travel goes right, get to Beach Club by noon or so (knock wood). Check in and jump on bus to Downtown Disney. Hang out there for a while, get a cocktail, then ride boat back to POR, look around there.

From POR, get bus to Epcot, ride Spaceship Earth as our first ride of the trip and then eat at Via Napoli around 8 or 8:30.
That's a plan anyways.

So, any must see stores at downtown Disney? I haven't been there since 2000!
I know where I want to eat.

thanks!

There is so much to see and do there, but here is a list of my personal "can't miss" places:
Art of Disney
Disney's Days of Christmas
Ghiradelli Chocolate Shop
Lego Shop
World of Disney Store (this is a MUST)
Hope you have a magical time! pixiedust:

Do you find you buy most of your souvenirs there, or around the resorts, or at the parks?

Is there a place to buy pet stuff? I want to buy our cat something (ideas?) and we lost our dog in January :sad1:, but we plan to (hopefully) bring home a new doggie after the trip in October, or maybe wait until after the holidays. Anyways, can we get dog bowls and stuff? I don't want to buy a collar as we have no idea what type of dog we'll end up with!

I know I can get a stuffed animal anywhere. :)

Actually, yes, I DO buy most of my souvenirs at World of Disney and always a Christmas ornament at the Christmas store. Unfortunately, it has been almost five years since I have seen any kind of pet souvenirs, other than a food bowl. In 2009 we found a pink princess dog collar for our minpin, but have never seen any since. Last year for a souvenir for our cat, we bought Ping-Pong balls from our Disney resort for him to play with.
I am so sorry for the loss of your doggie, but congrats on deciding to bring a new "baby" into your family. I think the World of Disney is where I saw the food/water bowls but not certain.

Thanks so much for answering. :)

For me it's the pin store, Art of Disney and World of Disney. This year we're planning a full evening at DTD so we'll do dessert at Ghiradelli...and probably grab Earl of Sandwich to bring back to our DVC villa for a snack the next day.

Thanks! Earl of Sandwich looks good, maybe we'll split a sandwich there first thing since we won't be eating dinner until late evening.

EoS is SOOOOOOOOO good! I know it's "just sandwiches" but they really are great and the price is unbeatable for Disney. I LOVE the Cannonballs sandwich (meatball) and DH loves the holiday sandwich.

Since you mentioned cocktails I will chime in. Our must do at Downtown Disney is a Mojito or two on the patio at Bongos. Great place to relax and do a little people watching.

Awesome! :thumbsup2 Thanks!

You will find in my trip planning cocktails are mentioned, um, quite often. ;)

Brilliant Minds or Kindred Spirits the choice is yours. We spend many nights of each trip on that patio. Mojito in one hand cigar in the other with Cuban music playing in the background. Can't beat Bongos.

One of the ways we got my daughter (at almost 5) out of the parks without complaint was to refrain from any purchases in the parks, then go to DTD on our departure day. She was so excited that she finally got to buy her stuff that she didn't mind having to leave the park.

X2 on the Pin Station. We like grabbing the mystery boxes, and if there's a set we like, we might pick up one of those, too.

And the only problem with the sandwich -- it won't make it to the next day. It'll be gone long before then...

Agree on World of Disney...plus they are one of the places you get a discount if you use your Disney Visa.

My teen daughter and I like "Trends." It is our favorite DTD apparel location...we have also been lucky to find items at the sports themed store attached to it we like. I got a Mickey Mouse Kansas Jayhawks shirt...a great find merging my two loves.

I know you said that you know where you will eat but our favorite restaurant is Wolfgang Puck Express...sit down meal quality, counter service prices, and beer and wine. One of the places where everyone in the family can find something they love so no one is compromising.

Love looking at the Christmas store but I do not usually buy anything. Also like looking at Goofy's Candy Co.

Have a great trip!

Almost ANYTHING you find in the parks you can find in that world of Disney store in DDD. It is HUGE! They do have a whole section there with pet items including both dog and cat bowls. So sorry about your dog. I know how hard it is to lose a furry family member.
I agree with pp poster's other suggestions. I also think the balloon ride looks very cool- I just can't get over my fear of heights to try it. :scared1: I can get on any roller coaster , but can't ride a ferris wheel-go figure . You'll love the walk around POR. The grounds are pretty.
Hey you can always have a cocktail at the River Roost while you're there ;)

Thanks everyone!!

Wow, now I think maybe we'll go visit there during the trip at night also. The description of drinking mojitos while listening to Cuban music did me in. :rotfl:

And thanks for all the opinions on the stores. I will have to do the shopping before the drinking. :rotfl:

Oh and Kat913, that's a great idea. I think when we tour the resorts maybe we'll try and either eat at their counter service or get a drink in the bar, thanks!

My wife and I did Flights of Wonder. That was really neat. I enjoyed it very much.

The Christmas store is simply amazing! It reminds me of a way smaller version of Brohnners in Frankenmuth MI. But so lovely to visit!

Believe the poster means the balloon ride,"Characters In Flight", not the attraction located at DAK. We're looking forward to trying it this year and believe the price is discounted before 10am(?).
