I'm going by myself next week.

Is there anything you enjoyed or got to see because you were going solo?

shop as much as I wanted
I went three gazillion times on the Jungle Cruise
I could look at the fish at Coral Reef, instead of having to entertain someone else at my table
Use the single rider's line
FInd a good spot for either show/ parade 2 minutes before it started
Have a lot of contact with the CMs

I have been there several times by myself. My favorites are:
Get a spa treatment - Grand Floridian, etc.
Diving at the Living Seas at EPCOT
Visit other resorts
Eat at different restaurants
Shop

I rode Buzz Lightyear's ride about a thousand times and didn't have to go on the rides DD likes that I can't stand. :)
I took my time shopping, concentrating on what I was looking at instead of on making sure noone gets lost.
Spent about an hour at Basin in DTD.
Went to MNSSHP and stayed out late.
Had a drink or two.
Did my own pin trading instead of standing back while DD trades.
Lots of CM interaction.
Did whatever I felt like on whatever schedule I wanted, including whims.

If there's another solo trip, I may go for a spa treatment. If my knee was better, I'd go on one of the tours DD isn't old enough for yet.

Okay - for you outgoing sort - how do you strike up conversations with CM's? I've always been somewhat shy unless someone starts a conversation with me - then good luck getting me to shut up :rotfl:

Oh my gosh, it is so easy to start a conversation with a CM. I am shy, too, but enjoy talking to the CM's. Sometimes all you have to do is smile and say hi. I always read their name tag to see where they are from and ask them questions about home. The CM's in Epcot World Showcase love to talk about their home. I spent 30 minutes talking to one CM from UK. They are sometimes home sick and enjoy talking.

i'm taking a book....when i'm not riding i'll read it or just people watch...doing the mnsshp, wine fest, dance and be happy meeeeeeeeeeeeee :lmao: :thumbsup2 :cool1: pirate: :moped: :rolleyes1

You can just say hi and ask where they are from. That will usually get everyone chatting up a storm :) Or you can ask where a good place to catch the fireworks are (everyone has a diff fave place to see them).

Things I did last month, and some I just every time when it's just me:

Stayed for the Hoopla at the AC.
Slept in a lot.
Ordered room service.
Sat on the ground for 10 minutes in USA to take a picture of a butterfly.
Drank a Cherry Icee in the shade without being in a hurry.
Ate wherever the heck I wanted, when I wanted.
Turned my plans upside down.
Not making plans at all.
Took a walk in the rain.
Rode the train at MK for an hour.
Sat by the pool and didn't swim.

Solo is a blast!

I went on TOT about 17 times in a row (well... almost 17).

Went to Jellyrolls 3 out my 5 nights there.

Talked to strangers.

Sat on the curb on Main Street, eating a dole whip, just watching the people walk by.

The best thing about being solo is that you can be completely selfish and do only what you want. :goodvibes

I don't think of it as being selfish. I think of it as my well deserved reward for having to go with other people at other times. ;) :teeth:

like others have said, taking time for yourself, lots of shopping with out being rushed, the freedom to make and break daily schedules. my parents think im crazy for going to WDW by myself but they just dont see how its good for the soul :goodvibes. Go and have fun! pamper yourself, take some tours! Thats what i did and i had a blast!

I wish you well. The single rider line may be beneficial. But other than that there's really nothing in WDW that can best be enjoyed or seen alone. Of course, everything is more fun without incompatible companions. For this reason, many people have a great time going solo. :artist: :thumbsup2

Speak it sistah, LOL.

I was at a party last night and talking about how excited I was to be going on a trip myself to WDW. My last several trips have been all for the people who I was going with, and now it's time for me to have fun. I think some people thought I was weird. ;) So glad I don't care about such things.

As far as things I do when solo I don't get to at other times :

1) Eat whatever I want, in whatever configuration...sometimes I'm in the mood to get some chowder at Columbia Harbor and a couple of hours later a burger at Pecos...or sometimes skip a meal entirely and have a bigger meal later in the day.

2) Although you still walk through the same space, as a solo it is so much easier to slip in and out of shows, parades, etc. I find I can move incredibly quickly through a park if I really try, which is nearly impossible exponentially the more people you have.

3) I can repeat favorite rides as much as I want...Solo, I might spend 2 hours on the TTA (the nice CM's almost always let you stay on as long as you want), which I wouldn't get to do with others who don't get to go as often.

4) Selfishly (well, isn't this all? LOL), I also like the fact that when it comes to dining or special events, I don't have to consider the finances of others. It's really easy for me to go to three different MNSSHP or MVMCP's in one week solo trip since that's just three tickets...I can imagine the decision would be a lot harder if I had to buy 4, 5, 6 or more tickets (hundreds of dollars) at a whack. Same as a nice restaurant for lunch - even the nicer places in the parks I can get away with a great lunch for $25 or $30 (less with the DDE discount). If I had a party of 4 and it was $100+ it might be more of a concern.

I think those cover what makes it different for me...I just have to admit I'm a worryer when it comes to other people's experience when I'm the one planning the trip, and the indulgence of a solo venture is really a bigger treat than I can describe because I'm not trying to please anyone else.

I'll slightly disagree. ;)

As to the actual enjoyment of a ride or show? Not better, but not worse either.

What I find beneficial when I'm on a solo trip, though, is that it is SO much easier to see fireworks, or a parade, or many of the shows (like Beauty and the Beast, Lights! Motors! Action!, etc.) because you can slip in at the last minute.

For example, I never worry about Fantasmic! when I'm solo, because the worst case scenario (unless it's ultra busy, and I don't travel during those times) I go to the standing section in the back (which there is usually room to sit down on, anyway). I don't have to steak out a spot an hour early for a parade, I can usually walk right up and find some unobtrusive spot that is just big enough for one person.

I guess the point is I think the biggest advantage is simply mobility in and out of attractions. You can move much more quickly as one person than you can as 2, 5, or more.
