Anything Negative to Say About ING?

I'm looking into the "ING Thing" but I never like to jump into anything when it comes to money.
From what I've read so far, it almost seems too good to be true.
So, before I make any moves I'd like to ask if anyone has had or has heard of any negative experiences with ING. What where they?

The only negative I've experienced is that you can't withdraw your money the exact moment you decide you want it. It usually takes 24-48 hours. Never a huge problem if you plan ahead. In general, I just love ING!

I don't blame you for feeling skeptical. I certainly was. But then I realized the reason they can afford to pay such high interest rates is that they don't have loads of lovely 'local branch offices" to maintain like most "regular" banks do.

I've spoken with customer service there a couple times and they are insanely helpful.

I, for one, say "Take the leap and join us!"

You know now that you mention it, I just hate that they pay such high interest.

LOL!

Seriously, I know, I thought the same thing but figured well what did I have to lose? So I gave it a shot and with referrals etc earned (seems more like won, since I didn't do anything for it) over $200 toward our Disney trip last year. I have called customer service several times and they are always incrediblly nice and very helpful.

Go for it! YOu will not be sorry.

I love ING. I love knowing that my WDW is just sitting there earning money for me until October. I haven't found any drawbacks thus far. I say "Dive in!" :)

I called and they won't give me the bonus for joining or the chance to make other referrals without being referred by someone. And the board doesn't let you post for referrals here. Someone did try to send my one electronically but it wouldn't work (that's when I called and tried to do it by phone).

So, I hear all the excitement but can't get in.

Do they have referral cards that get sent by surface mail?

Ann, you need to PM someone from the ING thread and ask them to send you a referral. You will need to send them your name and e-mail address for them to send you the referral. There have been instances of the referral e-mail being sent to SPAM folder, so if you are expecting a referral in e-mail and don't receive it, then be sure to check your SPAM folder.

Not that I am aware. When you give ING the information to send someone a referral, the only information you can give them is a name and e-mail address.

Good Luck! Try it again and PM someone and see if you can get a referral e-mail this time. ::yes::

I have absolutely no complains at all. Their customer service when you do have to call are outstanding!

Thanks for asking this question, OP, as I was wondering the same thing. I'm just really nervous about doing this all online, but was looking for some drawbacks.

I'm glad that everyone has been so pleased with their service! Now off to the ING sticky thread!

Yes, surface mail referral cards do come. We have gotten them in our mail and it is in the form of a check for $25 with non negiotable on it.. then on the front and back is a space for someone to refer someone. There is an access code on the front and back, and well as name address, etc. There is also a UPC of some sort on the front as well. I haven't seen them in a while, but they do exist.

Of course you can also do the electronic referral, we've all done it.

I signed up recently and am pleased with their service so far. I did notice that my first few deposits weren't cleared for withdrawal for about three weeks afterward, but since this is my "put money in and forget it exists" fund, I had no problem with that.

Go for it. So far, ING has been working great and keeps me motivated to save. The referrals are great- I've only gotten a couple so far but hey, free money is the best kind of money, right?

I started using ING 2 or 3 years ago and I truely am very happy. I have my account, the Disney account, DS private school account and now a Disney Cruise account. I have to keep 5000.00 in my checking/savings account at the local bank but any money over that goes into one of the 4 ING accounts. You can't beat the intrest unless you go to a CD and ING even has those.

Yep, that is definitely a problem. I sent the referral to my sis in law three times before she "found" it in her spam file. And the email that comes says something like "How would you like $25 for free?" Had I not known mine was coming, I probably would have automatically deleted it. They need to come up with a better subject line on their emails!! :flower:

I'm confused. This is the only way I can open an ING account?

Well, yes, if you want to get the $25 bonus for opening the account. Unless you get something in snail mail like CindyB mentioned above.

Unless someone else knows of another way?

Now if you want to forgo the $25 bonus, you can contact ING directly.

The only problem I've had with ING has been very minor indeed ... I don't log into their web site often enough to remember my customer number ... a quick phone call always gets it straightened out

Tonight I was all excited and telling my DH about ING.
I made the mistake of calling it an "online bank" and right away he says, "So all of our information will be floating around there in cyberspace? Won't that make it easy for someone to hack into our account info and drain the money?" How do I reassure him about this?

PS -I apologize if this is answered on the ING sticky thread. I'm slowly reading through it but I'm only on page 2, I think.

I agree with some of the other posts, the time it takes to transfer the money back to your regular accout seems to take a while. However that can also be a good thing to keep you from making spur of the moment purchases.

I just opened my ING account three weeks ago and I love it! I opened an account for my DS (12) and DD (4). I've always been really bad at putting away money for my kids (and myself), so this type of account really helps.

If your husband is worried about having all that money (and info) out there in "cyberspace", just give it a try for a set period of time - say, 6 months - and see how you like it.

I've already transferred funds back to my checking account to cover the 1st night's room ressies (AKL) I made for our trip in May - and so far, no problems!

Do you ever access you land based bank accounts online? If so, this is exactly the same concept. The site is secure and verified just like any other bank site would be so it is no more risk than a regular bank. The only difference is that you need to do most of your transactions online. You can mail in a deposit as I understand it, but I trust the USPS less than I trust the internet, so I never would.

As far as opening an account, oftentimes Microsoft Money as well as some of the tax prep programs will have a code to get a bonus when you open an ING account. I have seen occasional popups and banner ads too.

I have had my account since June and I love it. My 3 kids all have accounts too. I was worried that it was too good to be true too but I feel now that it is safe and secure.

Good luck!

Linda
