Well, we are thinking about taking in a show with Emmy while there. We are sort of narrowing it down to Joseph or Anything Goes. I saw Joseph some years back here, with two of the kids, and know it is okay for kids. I ASSUME Anything Goes would be also, but you know what they say about 'assume'. Has anyone seen it and if so, what's your opinion for an 11 yo?
Thanks.

Not seen Anything Goes so I can't comment on it, but have you seen the Lion King? It is simply wonderful, and a real delight for kids and adults alike.

Regards

Rob

The content of Anything Goes is fine for kids.

Saw an amateur version many moons ago and can't recall any nudity!!!

Can't say what the current production in London is like though.

Personally, Id love to see We Will Rock You, but kids may prefer Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Cheers

Craig

I don't recommend We Will Rock You for Joe's family, but certainly Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Lion King aew great ideas :) !

We saw Joseph recently and my two DDs (aged 10 and 8)absolutely loved it! We were all up dancing by the end - superb!

I have seen many shows many times in the West End.

My personal best is seeing We Will Rock You 10 times! Its really very good. Sensational band, magnificent cast, - Sharon D Clarke as Killer Queen - amazing. Really funny script... just don't take it too seriously, in fact, don't take it seriously at all! The sets are original and very wow:cool: . The lighting is the best i have seen. (lighting and set designers worked on rock and pop concerts). The finale is not to be missed, 15 minites of high energy entertainment! (been going for about 18 months now, a standing ovation every night!)
I have quite a few audio clips and pictures of it if you want to hear, to see what you think.
Since opening in London it has opened in Melbourne and Madrid, with many more planned to open in the next year or so.
The Sequel of We Will Rock You has been written, the working title is Heaven for Everyone.

Another great new show is Tonight's The Night, using the songs of Rod Stewart. I have seen it 2 times. The first number is just brilliant, a big ensemble number with Satan at the lead. It is very very funny. Its written by Ben Elton, who wrote We Will Rock You too. Again, don't take it too seriously. The set is really really good here too, from the Gates of Rod's mansion, to night clubs, petrol stations, even the Finale on Rods Boat! The leading ladies have really powerful voices. The leading men also have great voices. The best comedy comes from Stoner- a British old rocker Mick Jagger type, to Jorge (pronounces HorHey)- Rod's flamboyant and camp butler. Another must see.

Joseph - havn't seen this show, but have heard that if you saw the Paladium version, then this version will dissapoint you. Darren Day plays Joseph at the moment, but aparently doesn't turn up half the time! If you want to see Joseph, apparently the touring one is better. It has Andrew Derbyshire as Joe. He was in the final 50 of Pop Idol series 1, and also understudied the lead in We Will Rock You for the first year. (was very good too).

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - I felt a bit let down with this. It was in the summer holidays and the children in tha audience were restless and figiting. The sets are quite good, and the car is good too, but i was expecting more. It didnt 'fly' that much, and i saw how it 'flew' so that also ruined it. The Baroness made me want cry and run away, seewas so tedious and cringe worthy. In my view its a pantomime with a big budget, trys to be funny and isnt really worth the time.

Others you may be intersted in-
Fame - it was quite good, but there were many times that i looked at my watch. Someone next to me fell asleep! It felt a bit dated. But i suppose it all really depends on the cast. At the end the cast try to get everyone up standing and dancing. They were really trying hard but not many people joined in.

Bombay Dreams - original, big sets, lots of colour. But the dances and songs all seemed the same to me, so felt quite repetitive and got boring.

If you want a different kind of show all together, the play The Woman in Black is really good. It's a thriller/horror about a man who goes to sort out a womans belongings in her house, after she dies. There are only 2 actors. One of them plays many different characters, very talented. It is quite scary, and the small theatre, closeness to the action makes you feel more involved. The theatre is ne of the smallest, and it was very errie and creepy. If you go get seats in the stalls, for one or 2 suprises ;)... just don't get an ilse seat if you scare easily!

If you want any pictures i have brochures from a few shows on the computer and sound clips so just ask me.
If you want any advice then ask me too :teeth: ... also i have lots of good deals to shows too.

thanks :D

Stal, knowing Joe and his young daughter, I do not think that We Will Rock You or Woman In Black are the sort of shows they are looking for!

I know some children of Emmy's age who have been pretty freaked out by Woman In Black!

We Will Rock You... well, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the whole show was made by the incredible cast and the musicians (who more than make up for the daft plot!), but you do have to be Queen fans and love that music to get the most out of it. The audience were won over before the show started which gave a great atmosphere, and as you say, you can't take it seriously :) !

Joseph is a safe bet but was just wondering since Joe saw it before, if he'd like to try something else.

We took DD Rebecca (aged 8) to see the Lion King in the summer and she absolutely loved it. We also thought it was fantastic and very inventive with the costumes etc. I would highly recommend it .

I wasn't a Queen fan and i enjoyed it. I am not a Rod Stewart fan and enjoyed tonights the night, and don't really like madness, but saw Our House 3 times. I like the way they make the songs their own

How old are the children?

I have seen it a few times and every time i have been about half audience is made up of primary school children on school trips.

Really depends what your looking for.:earsboy:

Thanks for all the tips. We are leaning towards Joseph, simply because we know it, it's a nice show, and it's safe. Lion King is great, but we just saw it last month. Some of the other recommendations won't open until after we leave. So, we'll keep watching the listings, but if we do one, it will likely be Joseph, if there are tickets.
