With the Dec 25th incident on the plane in Detriot, I was just curious if there are any changes again in what you can bring in carry ons?

I have checked with my carrier as well as the TSA but really didn't see anything other then allow more time to clear security, which I totally do not have a problem with, we all want to arrive and get home safe and sound but also want to make sure I am prepared and pack correctly.

We have been told to expect and ADDITIONAL hour to clear security. Currently no rules have changed but if our travel group hears something I will post.

Thanks for the info Charles. I don't mind the extra wait. We all want to get there safe.

Actually just heard on my local news that if you are leaving from a airport other then a US airport, the only thing you can bring in your carry on is things that are necc. Diaper bags, lap top, medications, camera. That is it.

However, I am a Canadian travelling across the boarder and flying out of a US based airport so maybe I will be OK. Just like to take my racing clothes in my carry on, would hate to have to check them. I have been really lucky and never had my luggage lost but would hate this to be the first time.

I heard that you should give yourself 2 extra hours if flying from outside the country. They are hand searching carry on luggage in some areas, which is why it is taking extra time to make it through security. They said to minimize this time you should carry on as little as possible. I plan to still carry on one running outfit and wear one onto the plane so that I can get my Goofy gear to FL.

Thanks Katie, I am flying out of a US based airport so I hope it isn't that bad. My one concern is I bring about 6 cans of Tim Hortons coffee down for my friends that I am meeting after the race and I have always brought that in my carry on. Not sure if I can now. It really won't be a big deal but that will now add to the size of my checked bags and might have to pay for a extra bag and really worried about race clothes.

Jeezzz I am a mess these days eh? Worrying about the flight, doing goofy....uuggghhhhh I gotta keep telling myself to stop sweating the small stuff and not worry about things I can't change.....note to self;)

I am considering UPS for my carry on stuff this year. I really hate it when TSA feels put out. Things like HR monitor straps and other things that normally go through all of a sudden require touching and feeling.

Hi Kim,

The biggest impact are the flights leaving from outside the US. I am also flying out of Buffalo & am only semi-worried.;)

The issues at Pearson are with US customs not the Airlines. You are through ticketing in 20 mins. but it's taking 2+ hours to clear customs & have carryons etc searched. The rules for what is allowed via carryon seem to be changing by the minute. It's gone from 1 carryon, 1 carryon but can't have wheels, to only essentials as you previously mentioned. 1 of yesterday's rules was no laptops. They had to be in your checked bag.

I'm an over packer. I'm really going to only take essentials this time with race day gear in my carryon. Don't need the added stress of getting to the airport & having to rework bags etc.

Deep breaths Kimmer...you are going to do awesome! I can't wait to give you a hug of congratulations after we both cross that finish line.

Hmm... the one time I probably should have taken SW or any other airline out of the US. This should be interesting. I thought about dressing in layers and wearing my running clothes through security since I can't bring a carry-on. I'm sure everyone would love that.

We have a 6:30 AM flight so hopefully that will make things a little easier since we'll be one of the first flights out. Fingers crossed....

Like Charles mentioned, I sent a UPS box down of stuff in November when I took my last WDW trip. It was less expensive than I expected- and was awesome. I just called Bell Hop service when I got there, and they delivered it to my room. I allowed about a week for delivery to be on the safe side. - I'll absolutely do this again in the future when flying.

I just checked and most of the "new" rules have been rescinded or left up to the captain and the flight crew. You still have to follow the 3-1-1 rule and all that stuff, though.

Some of the things that might help you get through screening easier:

Put all the stuff you normally put in pockets, your jewelry, etc in Zip lock bags so that you don't have to empty your pockets and get redressed.

Slip on shoes, sandals or crocs makes screening easier for everyone.

When packing your carry on, layer your clothes and electronics. Put a layer of neatly folded clothes and then a few electronics neatly packed with the cords folded and not just strung out and then clothing and electronics/cameras, hair brushes, and other hard objects. It makes it easier and clearer for the screeners to see on the x-ray.

Thanks everyone!!!!.

Sue when do you fly out? That would be awesome if we where on the same flight.

Katie, you might have a long wait. I will definatley be taking all 7 hours to finish but I will be OK with that.

Kim, it is definitely not a pretty time to be travelling by air from Canada to the US! I am thanking my lucky stars that my DH and I decided to drive the 13+ hours from Seattle to Calgary for Christmas (we couldn't find a kennel for our two dogs during the holidays, because we left planning so late!) instead of flying, this year. I have a feeling we would still be in the Calgary airport waiting to take off! :scared1:

From what I've heard, you should not be affected if flying from Buffalo. There don't seem to be any carry-on restrictions for flying within the US. Also, I've heard reports (but also a contradicting report from the Toronto Star) that the restrictions are expected to be lifted this week, once the busy holiday travel period calms down. When are you leaving for WDW? If you're not leaving until after New Years, you shouldn't encounter any problems at all.

Good luck! And keep that Tim's coffee away from me! I made DH stop at every Tim's between Calgary and Vancouver during our road trip, I swear! :rotfl: It's the thing that I miss most about living outside of Canada right now.

Kim - My two full marathons took 6:59 and 6:55...we may be crossing that finish line hand in hand. :D

Sarah I have gotten quite a few of my US friends hooked on Timmys coffee :)

Sounds like a plan Katie!!!
