Kidani Village is going to be so enormous - is anyone at all concerned that AKVs will lose some of its charm? We have heard such great things about AKV (Jambo), and are this close to purchasing ourselves. But when I saw the pictures of the construction - WOW is that place going to be huge!!!

Will they be able to preserve the atmosphere do you think? Or is there a chance that it will just be so big that some of that will get swallowed up?

I think you'll be good. The thing is all about the animals and whether they are around for you to see. AS with anything, sometimes it will be a hit and miss but I would not let that deter you from your purchase!

What, do you thing they will do away with the animal safari? I thought that was the whole purpose of AK. I read in the DVC contract that they were not liable if in the future the animals were no longer there, but I am assuming that is under extreme circumastances. After all what is AK without the A?:confused3

With the expansion of the Sunset Savanna and the new savanna (I can't remember the name) I don't see AKV losing its magic, I see it becoming more magical. With the new water area, the additional eating options, the larger savanna and the addition of new animals, the future is bright. It is a one of a kind resort.

I dont think it will lose its magic because it is so unique. what other resort out there allows you to sit on your balcony each morning and wake up to the sights and sounds of an African safari? The only way it wouldn't be successful is is they did stop having animals........which it hopefully never does. It would be like removing the Boardwalk from BWV or the beach from BC. :confused3

Agreed. :thumbsup2

We stayed there recently with a room overlooking what will be the new savanna and it looks awesome! I think the huge scale will actually help give the animals more room and make it more magical-- we can't wait to see the new building complete.

The design of the new building is such that I think you will still feel very special no matter where you stay. There isn't much chance of only having hotel to look at there!

The only changing issue I foresee will be that the dedicated AKL/V bus route will have two more stops & people to go with those stops added... however... it'll be OK, we were spoiled before and anything will beat the OKW bus route with all it's spins and turns. :rotfl:

As for the resort loosing it's charm... hard to believe as it's so nice now, but I think it'll be improved. The three deciding factors for me to buy in there instead of going with a VWL resale were the new building, expanded savanna & pool area design.

Thanks for the reassurance on this one. Having never been to AKL at all, it seems odd to consider purchasing there. But I feel better knowing that those who are "in the know" think this is only a good thing.

And I did two vacations of those OKW bus routes - AKV would be an improvement no matter what. :-)

Does anyone know of a place where I can see the new pool area layout? I haven't been able to find anything on that one. TIA! :-)

The pool will rival all the others, and have an interactive waterpark feature which makes me think kids (and overgrown kids!) will be asking to experience the resort for thiws feature as much as the animals themselves. I Found this pic of the pool area on Mouseplanet - still looking for the play area design.

Can't find an artists sketch of the new play area, I know I've seen one. But for now, this is taken from mouse owners... (note that the blurb I read with pic said the play area is designed for ALL ages (including adults if they so desire is the way I read it)
Uwanja Camp
Climb elevated-rope bridges, dash through geyser jets, or relax in the waterfall lagoon or beneath the shade of the camp cabanas in this village playground themed as an animal observation site known as Uwanja Camp — uwanja means "play area." Explore three distinct zones in this children's interactive water-play area — the base camp, the departure zone and the observation station; each area has its own character and activities for age-specific groups.

Come to think of it... I think I saw it in the new book they give out to prospects. I didn't get one as I already have two from previous visits and the only change was to the AKV pages. Perhaps someone who has the new book could scan & post the pic?

The answer is NO, because the new savannas will have Okapi and Red River Hogs.

Nothing more need be said.

The only thing I am expecting is that the Jambo lobby (from flow through traffic to CS and observation area) and CS restaurant will be a lot more crowded from the increase.
