I work in Human Resources... but have just started a new job. Which offers 2 weeks vacation a year.

Recently, hubby and I decided to take a week in September to go to Disney. This would be 7 months after starting. I have previously been used to companies who allow 1 week after 6 months, etc. or even one day per month added up.

I asked payroll about it and they told me to ask the Human Resources Manager because she kept changing the policy. My boss, the Human Resources Manager, stated that because of payroll, I am not allowed a single vacation day this year, until I have passed a year!

Does this sound right to anyone? I'm really bummed about this, I even cried on the way home after work. Any advice would be appreciated.

I thought more companies were going to the accrued vacation, but yes in the past I've know many people that didn't earn vacation time until their one year anniversary date with the company.

Unfortunately, you are SOL.

You should have told them upfront that you already have a vacation planned and paid for prior to accepting the position. Sometimes, they will deviate from company policy when you advise them during the interview process.

Hope you can salvage your plans for a later date.

Many companies work that way you don't get your vacation time untill your first year is up.

Sorry to hear that your company doesn't want to work with you. :sad2: I guess you could take a week off with no pay. Not sure how your finances or the company policy would handle that.

I hope it works out for you.

Well, some good news.

I have my performance evaluation tomorrow. My boss said that she spoke to her boss and may have some good news for me at that time.

I did mention that I wouldn't mind taking the week without pay and they wouldn't go for that yesterday.

But, I feel some anticipation for tomorrow. :wizard:

WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY!!!

Thanks for your good thought vibes. :cheer2: My boss talked to her boss and all is well... we are going to be on her way. She has only worked for about a year and also found that she had been mislead... ah... what a good feeling.
