Anyone work in admin for a school district?

I am thinking about applying for a couple of jobs in the admin department of our school district, something like admin support. Right now, I am a paralegal and I really dislike my job. I don't really want to go work at another firm down here, so maybe I am just burnt out on legal altogether and its time to do something else.

Working for the school district seems to have alot of pluses for me. While I would prefer to get a job with a school where I would have extended time off in the summer, the admin department seems more geared to my strengths so I thought I would start there. The pay will be below what I make, but I work pt now and I know I will pick up many benefits I don't have access to in my current situation. The leave policy is pretty generous, like 12 days off a year which start accruing immediately so that is a definite draw for me. (My current job I have to work a year before getting any time off, and although that may be standard for some, I have never worked for a law firm who made you work a year before you got vacation. You'd pull your hair out, lol. I have been able to take some time off, I have just been forced to make it all back up, including sick days, its been really difficult to work out with the child care for my two children.)

So if you work for the school district in an admin support role, do you like it? What don't you like? Do you think someone with my background would transfer over well?

I don't work in admin but I was a teacher. Not all the admin positions follow the school year, many of them are 12 month positions and usually if the teachers are at school, so are the admin people. I know in our district the admin people that work directly for the principals and superintendent are 12 month positions, the payroll and benefits people are also 12 month positions. I would just check into that if part of the reason for your job is extended vacations.
