Anyone work at Blockbuster? ** Update Post #25 **

I'm thrilled with this new pricing. I'm less likely to rent a new release, because I tend to see most of them at the theater. But there are so many older movies that I haven't seen that were before I got so "into" going to the theater.

So they'll definitely make money off me... I just expect the employees to know what they're doing. I shouldn't have to explain their promotion to them. LOL.

I think it's #1 too. I think it's both hilarious and tragic that the manager of a movie rental store doesn't watch movies. What ever made her want to work there? Weird:confused3

It could be that she was on unemployment and the job was offered to her as part of the process and she HAD to take it. Also they work 10 hour days and are open until Midnight so she probably does not have TIME to watch. Ask me how I know this???? Yep I was in the same position many many years ago. I hated working there but I had to take the job because it was offered. I never had time to watch....or least I chose to sleep during my off time and not watch videos.

Actually, it makes complete sense (although I'd be interested to know what the asterisk denotes) because the e-mail states '1-day rentals, 1 at a time'. As someone said above, the OP's rental history would show in the computer that she rented one $2.99 movie to initiate the promo.

Oh, and she could always rent a movie on a Friday night, return it late Saturday morning and rent another one, return it later in the day and get another one for overnight, repeat Sunday... unless that pesky * prohibits this, to get even a better value.

To me it makes zero business sense. Reading the disclaimer on the website, it looks like a YMMV type promotion. The manager at the OP's location didn't sound too enthusiastic about it.

No, the manager didn't sound enthusiastic about being there in general. I don't care what her reason was for having the job. I don't go to a store to hear the employees badmouth it.

UPDATE!

I hadn't been back to Blockbuster since we had this discussion... the coupon is sitting right next to my computer. I kind of forgot about it.

So today, I went to lunch with my mom and it was pouring rain here in good old Buffalo... on my way home, I decided to rent a movie.

I pick out a 99-cent rental and take it up to pay. The person behind the counter tells me about the promotion they're having.

Yep... you guessed it.

Rent any $2.99 movie and I can get the 99-cent one for free today and then every day between now and July 4th I can come in and pick out a movie for free... no further purchase/rental required.

And no coupon required :rolleyes1

Oy... so they were a week behind, but free movies make me happy!

I didn't bother bringing up the conversation I had a week ago... the person who waited on me said it was a promotion because of their new pricing and as a thank you to their customers.

The only problem I see is that the selection of $2.99 movies is fairly limited. It won't affect me at this point, because I took care of my end of the bargain. But if anyone is thinking of checking it out, be forewarned that you might have a hard time finding a "Just Arrived" movie... which are the only $2.99 rentals.

That's pretty cool. Even if you do pick out a not so cool new arrival movie. Free 99 cent rentals for the rest of the month will cover the upfront cost...

Glad some one was smart enough to have the answer.

Actually, it's any rental $1.99 or less... which covers just about everything in the store! Pretty sweet. The $1.99 movies are the ones on the wall that have been there for a while (I guess they're the ones that aren't considered "Just Arrived".)

For me, I'll probably stick with the 99-cent ones because I've probably seen just about everything on the wall anyway. But there are lots of older movies I haven't seen.

Oh... and I also BOUGHT a movie for 99 cents, too!!! Looked like they were trying to clear out their overstock.
