is cancelling or consider cancelling due to the swine flu? We are booked for dec/jan and honestly Im scared of this fall/winter as it is unknown how bad it will be during the flu season.

Swine flu outbreaks in the fall are all but certain given its continued spread here with major problems. That return could come with a vengeance.

We have considered driving instead of flying, hoping that would help.

Nope. The way I see it, there is no need to cancel right now.

If (if is a good word) the flu becomes as bad as the media claims, I'll worry about it then. I have enough in my life to worry about without having to stress over things that aren't even a factor yet.

That being said, I can't even imagine things getting anywhere near as bad as the meida is predicting. I mean so many other things come to mind on this same topic; Norwalk and Bird flu just to name a few.

I'll be honest.... I'm not a worry-er (sp?) but I'm a little freaked out about this! I'm more worried about one of us getting sick right before we leave or while we are there more then anything but we would never cancel I don't think. we are leaving Sept 17.... wonder how bad it's predicted to be at that time?

We are going to WDW this fall, we have trip insurance but this post reminded me I need to get out of province Health insurance (unless the one we have through DCL includes sickness coverage, I must call our TA about that). We are driving down, had made that decision even before the H1N1 outbreak began. I have one child with a lower immune system since her cancer treatment. I'm really not worried about H1N1, I feel confident that even if we contracted it, it would not be a big deal in any of us EXCEPT my daughter, and it's because of her I really need to be sure she has Health coverage while away. But still won't worry till there is an absolute need to.

Odds for what might foul up my Christmas Week:

2 to 1: Overcrowding
5 to 1: Lost luggage/delays because this is my first connecting flight ever
7 to 1: H1N1
9 to 1: Family Fighting

I just don't see H1N1 being anything but a back of the mind thing, just enough to occasionally make me paranoid at a buffet or two. Mind you, it will do that.

I'm definetly concerned. I haven't yet booked our spring break trip b/c I want to wait and see what happens this fall. Last week Britain's cases doubled! Very scary to say the least. We are leaving for Alaska next week and they have told us that they are screening people getting off the cruise up in Anchorage. If we have a fever, we will be quarantined and will not be able to fly home. :confused3 I hope that it doesn't get bad b/c I would like to book but I am definetly hesitant.:guilty:

Still going, and am not the least bit worried. In fact, we are going to Mexico on a cruise in September (with 2 days at DL beforehand) as a fall vacation with our family before heading down to WDW in December for our "Christmas trip".

We're still going this November-December. The majority of flu cases here have been mild thank goodness. And just remember the best way to prevent the spread of the flu is to wash your hands with soap and water. It's amazing how many people don't remember to do that. I'm just not willing to cancel my vacation for something that may not happen.

Not specifically Swine Flu, but I wouldn't go that time of year due to tons of other germs - especially from us cold weather people, who bring them to the warmer areas. That is not a good time of year, IMHO, to be on planes or in places with tons of people, and now with H1N1, and the uncertainty with the path it is going to take, I wouldn't be going at that time of year at all.

Good luck - I wish you a healthy trip, Tiger

We have a trip planned for December and then another one just DH and I in April of next year.
We were also down there in May just after the flu H1N1 had broken out.
We carried lots of hand sanitzer, and washed our hands alot.
We kept on our children about not touching hand rails and such.
We used the hand sanitzer after we got off every ride.
I think it is a little early to worry about yet. Just my opinion.

I have a bigger problem with my children's school, as they seem to not want to put soap in the bathrooms. This has been mentioned to staff at the school and this is still a problem. I will be going to see the principal as soon as the school opens this year to let him know that if this problem persists that I will go above the school to have this problem fixed.
In the past year I have just been sending my children to school with a bottle of hand sanitzer.
