Still mulling over prospects for my second contract. Now that I know how high dues are at Vero, would love opinions on HH. Can anyone tell me about experiences there or anyone with points there?

Last summer we visited HH, and came home and bought points there. We loved the place, and will likely go every other summer. It was interesting to find that the closing thru Disney took a while. They had to send it to a lawyer in Carolina since they no longer have a sales office there. It did not affect me, as the points were in my account the day we bought. Was able to make my reservation.

Worked great. Good luck if you decide.

I am really leaning towards HH now. I see you are BCV owners as well. How do you like it?

We purchased a 150 point resale from the Timeshare Store at HH. We absolutely love it. At the time of our purchase - HH had the cheapest yearly maintenance fees, I'm drawing a blank - but it was around 2002. So you can see how things change.

At the time of our purchase we decided that we could visit HH every year, where as Disney we may grow out of. I do not see that happening, LOL, but we also felt our chances of getting reservations at Disney World at 7 months out are better than at HH.

Our first trip we had a GV. My In-Laws still talk about it asking when the next trip they can come on is.

But then we added on at BWV when Disney offered $84/point. Glad we did with the recent price increases in the last couple of years.

My biggest regret about buying DVC?? Not buying sooner.

We have taken extended family to both OKW and HH. They all prefer HH which is why we own 400 HH points and only 200 OKW points. The 11 month booking advantage is great to have if you are set on yearly summer vacations.

Like the above poster said,My only regret is not buying in sooner.

Just to give you another view...

I owned at HH and sold. I found it a disappointing resort. I felt the location was not really that good. I go to HH for the beach and being across a busy highway from the beach was not good IMHO. I would perfer to be "inside" one of the plantations, which HH was not.

For the price of the dues I was paying I can rent a villa inside one of the plantations from an owner for a week within walking distance of the beach. I don't have to plan 11 months in advance for that either.

I strongly recommend you stay and see if it's for you. I bought based on the "Disney reputation" I won't make that error again!

My husband and I are HH owners and we absolutely love it there! To show how much my family enjoys HH, my nieces have speficially asked that we go to HH in 2009 instead of Disney! I was shocked! We has such a great time this past May during Memorial Day week. The ocean temp was great, the resort was pleasantly full but not overly crowded. We took the dolphin excursion, ate at some great restaurants, did a family bbq one night and the girls loved the pool.

Hilton Head has truly become our "family" get away. I am still a Disneyworld is #1 type of gal but ask the rest of my family and HH is #1 to them.

We have absolutely no regrets with HH and since we are not picky when we go to the world or which DVC resort we stay (our preference though is SSR), we don't have a problem booking at the 6 or 7 month window. DH and I have a trip to SSR in a few weeks and I can't wait!

Hope to welcome you home soon! :)

We own 155 points at HH and 50 points at BCV. We really enjoy HH, even this last trip with temps around 100 (this was in August). I enjoy the location of the resort-it is so easy to walk to any number of good restaurants. We usually drive to the beach to carry our stuff, rather than use the shuttle, but it is still convenient. We bought at HH thinking if I got over my WDW addiction (hasn't happened yet) we would spend time at HH since it is a very driveable distance from our home.

You asked about BCV: I enjoy it, but don't love it. I do love the location. I wish we had bought more points when we were buying, because it is hard for us to use just 50 points, even with banking and borrowing.

This brings up a question for this DVC newbie....I live in NC so the appeal of buying at HH is there just because it's easily driveable. However, we love Disneyworld and would like the added benefit of being able to plan 11 months in advance if we got points at say, OKW.

Let's say we bought two small contracts, one for 50 at HH and one for 50 at OKW, does this mean I could book at the 11 month window for both OKW & HH and use all 100 points at either resort for that 11 month window? Or would I only be able to use the 50 HH points at the 11 month window?

We are very interested in DVC but would probably opt for a resale of a smaller contract (or 2!) for now and add-on as necessary later on.

Thanks in advance!

(sorry to OP, not trying to steal your thread!)

No, all vacation points being used to make a reservation during the Home Resort Priority Period must be associated with that home resort. That is, you cannot combine points from multiple resorts to book one resort during the Home Resort Priority Period. You may combine all the points you have at all your home resorts and book any DVC resort only at the 7-month window.

What you can do is bank and borrow to get enough points in your current use year to get the 11 month advantage. For example, we recently added on 55 points at HH. With banking and borrowing I have 165 points to use in 2008 for a 5 night stay in a 2br in the summer.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! We own 91 points there (enough to get a 1 BR in the peak season every other year once we bank a year's points) and we just can't get enough of the place. If the drive wasn't so far (17 hours) we would go every year. You will not be disappointed when you get there!
