Anyone with GMC terrain radio system issues?

My mom has a 2013 and the radio system went out a while ago. She's been getting the run around. They say they need to design a new one. She is without her radio, thermostat, GPS, clock, etc. Yet she pays the monthly payments on a product that she is not getting what she paid for. She paid for upgraded package that is not working. They initially promised mid Feb and now they are saying mid April. And she had it replaced before in Nov 2014, when the original system went out. This is the second one to go out.

Is it still under warranty? And does your state have a lemon law? I read somewhere where Ford was moving away from single components controlling multiple functions because they were getting hit hard with warranty claims when a minor part of the component failed, but the whole component needed to be replaced to fix it.

Still under warranty and they'll replace it, the radio thingy, but they say they have to design a new one first and that hasn't even begun yet. They have none of the current defective radio thingies to replace it with, nowhere. So they say.

Check the lemon laws in your state. If she is still within the lemon law timeframe, she should go that route. If not, she may be out of luck and be at the mercy of the dealership. Unless she can find an attorney to help her.

I had to lemon out a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, so I totally understand getting the run around from a car dealer. The warranty is only worth anything if the dealer will fix the problem. I heard way too many times that there was nothing they could do.

Thank goodness for the lemon laws. That is one of the only ways to hold the car companies accountable.

You could escalate it with GM corporate. I have a Ford Explorer and belong to a message board for owners. Ford corporate has a couple of senior customer service managers who monitor the boards and often will tell the person to contact them directly. They will contact the dealer's general manager and get the problem solved a lot of the time. I know when they rolled out Ford Sync there were lots of issues with it---sounds like your Mom has a similar problem with GM's version.

Maybe it is a GM vehicle issue for sure. My dad had the radio (which controls a lot of stuff) replaced twice in 3 months on a 2015 Chevrolet truck.

I have a 2010 Terrain, worst car I ever owned. Had GPS problems from day on and they said they fixed it and never did and always acted like I was crazy, Finally the warranty ran out when I was not paying attention, so I wrote to GM, they have a complaint person and she got it replaced. Everything is fine and about a year later I get a letter from GM saying that the radios are having problems and they will fix it even if it is out of warranty. So basically the dealer knew all along.

Had the same experience burning oil, I was going thru a quart every 1000 miles, so they make me go thru all these oil consumption tests which wasted a lot of my time and they finally fixed it. I asked what the problem was and they said it was collapsed rings, and it happens all the time with that engine. SO they knew all along.

Then there was the stretching timing chain, which made the car sound like a world war I biplane. And the clicking water pump.

Not their best effort. My problem is I am busy and do not have time to mess around at dealers

Interesting! I just traded in a 2013 Terrain and had no radio issues. However, we now have a 2015 Silverado and the USB port works intermittently. It will randomly stop playing and kick me back to the radio, the touch screen buttons don't always work, etc. Must be something with GM technology?

Yes. They mentioned switching from intelalink to something else or vice versa. And my mom traded in a chevy SUV with lemon issues after a big fight about it to get this Terrain. She's not a happy camper. She is almost 70 and still working full time and doesn't need all this constant phone calls and taking car into dealer and taking rental car back and all the hassle.

She traded in and did get some credit for the issue but had a heck of a time getting it all done and walking out with what she felt was a fair deal (though still not really happy). Took several hours over several days. And she got a lot of attitude and treated poorly by the owner of the dealership. I will never buy GM and certainly NEVER from this dealership...big one in Glen Burnie MD.

And come to find out there is no solution in the near future on this faulty radio/GPS system. They got rid of the maker and need to find a new one. There are lots of GM vehicles with this issue.

Design a new one? That takes years to do. Mom's getting the runaround.
